My child was receiving above average grades here which I thought was strange because he was always an average student. I chalked it up to the small class sizes and more one-on-one attention. When I transferred him out in his Junior year, he went back into the public school system. I thought that he would breaze through his final 2 years, but to my surprise, the work was much more difficult, and there went the above average grades. My child finally admitted that he did not have to work hardly at all at MZ. Good grades were just given to keep the schools scores up. I believed him after seeing how much harder public high school was for him. I just hope I removed him from MZ in time to get him prepared for college.
Mt. Zion's school administration is horrible there is lack of communication, and very unorganized. The school office was closed the entire summer and they had a recording telling you to leave a message and someone will get back to you within ( 3 ) business days which was not true no one ever called me back. I never recieved my daughters report card, they said they would mail them out. The dysfunction of the administration is very frustrating but if you can surpass that then you have a good school.
This school is the worst school in Maryland. The principal misses school to get her hair done. There are no extra curricular activities. We are always promised we will have teams next year, but it never happens!!!
my daughter and i had plans for spring break sand her tacer sends her home with so much homework i wasmad at the school becase all the other school do not get homework over spring break
My daughter is a currently a student at Mt Zion. After reading many of the parent reviews I can honestly agree with most of the statements made. Mt Zion is a wonderful academic institution however work should be continuous. I would agree that the office can be a bit unorganized, and the staff does seem to show a bias towards some children, but as far as the academics it doesnt get any better. My daughter is far above her grade level. What has impressed me the most is the parents at Mt zion. The network of caring parents is amazing. Unfortunately I would love to see more extra curriculums at the school
My son attended MZ from k4-12 grade. It was an excellent choice we made. The level of academic performance surpasses all other schools. I am an administrator in the BCPS and I know curriculum. MZ is more than a school, it is a family. Like all families, there are problems. It is an academic school with out many extracurricular activities. I had to provide these other activities. There were the unorganized times and lack of communication. But what my son received from MZ out weighed all of the other negative things. He graduated as one of the top students in 2006 and is attending one of the top colleges in the country. I strongly recommend sending your child to this school. They instill morals, academics, family and religion. The teachers are well trained and they love the children. MZ was great! It served God and my purpose for my son.
Mt. Zion is a good school for academics, the office staff is a little disorganized. I would love to see a little more extra curricular activities however, I supplement those activities with individual programs. My son is well above his peers in all academic subjects. I love MZ!
Unfortunately my experience with Mount Zion has been nothing but unpleasant. My first bad experience started when I tried to enroll my kids into the school. As far as music, art and sports please forget it . Administratively the school is unorganized and most announcements and communication is done through the students to parents.
I have two daughters that attend Mt Zion , the school is in desperate need of help. The teachers could be trained a little more with having patience and professionalism. I Never see the principal. No open door policy.
This is truly one of the best schools.I have three children that attended Mt.Zion and they are doing GREAT!! I Thank God for Mount Zion. I LOVE MOUNT ZION!!
I attend Mt. Zion for my ninth grade year. The school was ok but the teachers paid favoritism very much.
I went to Mount Zion from kindergarten until the eigth grade. I was always above my grade level and used to help my cousins who were 2-3 grades above me with their homework. MZ laid an excellent foundation in my learning career and I am proud to be a part of it. It is excellent for preschool, elementary, and middle school.
I must honestly say that the school is wonderful. My daughter has been writing in cursive since k-4 and reading since the begining of this school year. The academic excellence that this school delivers surpasses all the rest.
This school is Baltimore's best kept secret. Tha absolute best, if I had not relocated all my children would still be attending this SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE. The academic standard and respect for and from the staff is par excellence.
I have a son in K5 and the transition he has made tis year is wonderful. He is reading above first grade level and his teacher is sincere. The communication offered between the staff and the parents is great. I would highly recommend this school to any and everyone!
Have two kids at Mt. Zion, a boy and a girl. Its the only school they've ever attended. One is in Jr. High the other in 2nd grade. The school is small and has a few weaknesses but makes up those With a high standard of education and spirit. As hard as they might try I don't think the Public schools in the area can compete. The added expense is worth it.
