So far so good especially with the new principal. The teachers respond to emails less than 24 hours. Parents are notified of any absence of their children and a note is required from the parents. Their website is wonderful especially the Edline where you can monitored your child's progress. Honestly speaking, the success of your child should be a combination of teachers, the school authority, and the parents.
This school is horrible. It's a gang infested, drug infested environment, similar to the neighborhood it's in. Children are constantly bullied, and jumped at this school. There's no air conditioning in the classrooms, but the administration office has it. The school is run down, and in desperate need of repair. I've had 3 children graduate from this school, and currently have one child still there.. It's gone from bad to worse, since my oldest graduated in 1995. I don't recommend it for anyone new to the area.
I have two son' s that attended this school the staff can be rude and no one helps you always the run around. The school isn't kept no bathroom doors for privacy for the boys bathroom. I thank God attest one of my kids graduated. Now I have one child to go the school is heavily gang populated that I am afraid to send my child to school teachers are being released because if budget cuts and we wonder why our kids suffer in academics. The Assistant Principal is the worse she judges you before even getting to know the individuals she assumes because kids walk home together in a group you are a gang and I had to ask are you a Delta or anything like that she says yes I asked when you meet with your soro sisters are you considered a gang she said no As long as I checked a group of kids walking home that live in the same neighborhood is not a gang. She made it a point to remove my son from school to spite the parents comment also I must have hit home with that one
Below average school. No communication between parents and school with regards to student. Someone should look into this school and straighten it out.
My child has been attending Lansdowne High for 4 years AOF and in the beginning she was a little over taken by the accountablity that this program puts on the students but I am happy to say it's because the teachers care. The teachers have pushed so hard that she has went from all standard class to Honor/AP with all A's and B's and will be attending college in the fall.
I must say that as a parent I have heard good and bad things about this school. My daughter goes there now, and I have been very pleased. I imagine it is not unlike many other schools, it has its good and bad. I think it really depends on the crowd your child chooses to hang out with. I had read other posts where indicating difficulty reaching teachers or couselors. I have had no problem and they have been all very helpful.
I went to Lansdowne growing up, and now my son attends. The school has improved so much in the last 6 yrs. The faculty really care about the children. My son enjoys it very much and I am very happy he goes there. Lansdowne has gotten many bad raps over the years, but it is actually a very good school.
im a freshman here and in the beginning I liked it but now I dont want to be there.the classes are okay but their main focus is on the academy of finance they get free stuff and go on all these field trips to new york and etc.None of the oter prorams get that type of attention. Some sudents dont care so now they are going to night school.Im in the magnet program of arts and communication program and its okay but not great. If your applying here as a magnet student but zoned for somwhere else see the school while its in action to get a view of what your getting into so you wont do something you might regret
I totally agree with the parent that had commented about the attitude of the main office secretary. I choose not to call any more. Best way is to email because no one can deny that you did not leave a question, comment or message because you have proof in black and white. This works great.
Parents would be more involved if they could get someone, anyone to return calls. I have attempted to schedule conferences with teachers that will not return call or respond to correspondence, to a principle not returning the call,to a counselor who was to follow-up not returning calls! Even when you come to the school unannounced because you can't get a return call you get nowhere! I am seriuosly considering removing my child.
The quality of academic programs has improved, parents are even more encouraged to participate in their children's educations, and the staff seems is good spirits. Maybe it's because they now have a principal who shows up every day and attends events? Although there are entirely too many 'floaters' (teachers who don't have a classroom and have to share). My son said he can't find a teacher he's looking for to turn something in because she's in 4 different rooms throughout the day, moving with a cart. He said she doesn't have an office or her own computer either. The other down side is that electives like mythology and creative writing are gone now...What a shame.
I am currently working at this school and I think its wonderful. The staff and the students are very pleasant. I have worked in other school before and I think that they are on a good track. The staff cares very much about their students and the students show respect to us.
My eldest son attends Lansdowne High School and I have nothing nice to say about the experience. I have tried to contact guidance on several occasions about my son and no one bothers to respond. I even went to the school in person only to be sent away without talking to anyone. The office is a nightmare! Disruptive teenagers sat in misery fussing while I attempted to talk to the not so friendly secretary. I was told I was asking for too much information by the secretary and no one helped me yet again. No wonder the students are disgusted. They are following the example set for them by the adults. I will not allow any of my younger children to experience this train wreck of a school.
This school is wonderful! The student are great. The Diversity is amazing. The principle cares alot about the students.
