My family will be relocating to the Baltimore area this summer. We have 3 kids and I would like to know what areas and schools offer the most diversity.
We live in Parkville (County) and my kids went to Pine Grove Middle and now are at Loch Raven. The schools are great and the neighborhood is culturally and economically diverse. Lots of houses for sale and plenty of really nice apartment complexes. Good luck! 77509
I live in Baltimore City right now and my daughter has attended Holabird Academy and my son still attends Patterson High School. I do not recommend either school to you. I just pulled my daughter out of Holabird Academy due to poor teaching and bullying in the school. However, on the up side both schools are diverse. I would research the schools on greatschools.com As a last resort you could do what I am doing and homeschool the children. I do not recommend any Baltimore City School. They follow the same curriculum and it is very poor.78095
Parkville ,Towson and White Marsh are all good areas with good schools in Baltimore.. Ellicott City, Bowie and Upper Marlboro is pretty good also. 78397
Baltimore city schools are TERRIBLE ...howard county schools are great as well as carroll county. Not sure where you are going but if you move into the city choose a private/catholic school. Howard county very diverse and blue ribbon my daughter went to mt hebron and loved it 79996
I would recommend going private if you can. The schools in Baltimore City and Baltimore County are overcrowded and underfunded. I work in various public schools and I can't tell you how many kids I see slipping through the cracks. My son attends a small catholic school in Baltimore City and has only 13 in his class as well as two full-time teachers. The public school he would have had to attend would have had 40 in the classroom. I couldn't do that to my five year old. 82152
I would not discard the Baltimore City School system as there are a few very good charter schools (take a look at the outcomes which parallel the private schools). Among the good ones are: Patterson Park Charter School and Baltimore Montessori. There is also Baltimore International Academy (with an excellent immersion program).
These schools have great diversity - and because of it - some people shy away without really looking at the student outcomes (their test scores are among the highest in the State)82659
