Academically, HDS is a very challenging school . The teachers are amazing. Your child will work hard in this school and will have an extreme advantage over other students after graduation. Socially, the friends my children have made at HDS will last a lifetime. If you take the education of your child seriously, HDS should be first on your list to visit.
I write this from the view point of a minority family. Don't waste your time or money. They do not want you in this school or the community. GO ELSEWHERE.
My daughter went to this school last year, and believe me, it was excruciating for her. Not only do we get the feeling that the teachers there are pretentious show-offs, the education provided for my daughter was very unsatisfactory. We're switching schools.
my granddaughter has been at HDS since kindergarten and my only regret is that she did not start in pre-k. The atmosphere is warm, the teachers are caring and loving and the education is superior. She is challenged, encouraged to do well, and supported when having difficulty. She has no problem with asking for additional help when having difficulty with a subject. Teachers are very available. She is now in fifth grade and we look forward to this year and the coming years. We are a typical middle class family facing the same financial challenges as other one parent families and the financial office has been very helpful to us. My daughter and I could not be more satisfied with the complete educational experience for my granddaughter.
I am writing this school review because the last review was not at all accurate and probably represented an individual problem. HDS is a wonderful, healthy educational environment for all grade levels. A diverse, refreshing student body is complemented by a professional, caring and energetic team of teachers. Great leadership, great people and great environment makes HDS a superb alternative to public education in Harford County. We made the decision for HDS in K-5 and have viewed it as an outstanding value for our child and a nice community of people to be associated with. A superb educational experience without the worries of public school curricula, re-districting, and teachers unions.
This is an excellent school! It is our first year here(6th grade) and both faculty and students have been wonderful to our son. Middle School is challenging both socially and academically, but with the support of the HDS community, our child is thriving there. Only regret is that we didn't transfer there sooner.
This school has amazing education, but the cruelest, most cliquey students I have ever met!
This is the best school you could go to. I can't even say how good of an education it gave me and how lovely the community the school creates is. If you want your child to succeed, send them here. The success comes from the best teachers and nicest students.
