Ms. McKelvy is an awesome teacher. She isn't my daughter's teacher but she someone who my daughter trust and someone she talks to about things that she won't talk about at home. Ms. McKelvy is non judgemental and very encouraging. It's nice to know someone has my daughter's back
My daughter used to attend Beltsville Academy in kindergarten, now she's returning back for 7th grade and so far it has been the worst experience. There is ano older Hispanic lady in the office who is not only rude and inconsiderate, half of the time she doesn't have any knowledge of what is going on or what she is talking about. It seems like every single time you either speak to her over the phone or see her in person she is just trying to get rid of everyone. Everything in that office is chaotic when she is in charge, but as soon as someone else walks in everything tends to calm down.
I think that if she was more of a "people person" things would run a little smoother. Also if she didn't talk down to all the parents and scream so much, it would make all visits to the main office a little more pleasant. Parents literally have to argue with her to get their point across.
We have had a very good experience at this school. Especially love the k-8 format and feel this not only is better for middle schoolers but also makes the school community stronger and more supportive.
My youngest 2 children have attended this school all the way through, from the Academic Center Days to Current. It is now a PREK-8 school. Someone needs to update this website and include the middleschool children. Inspite of many downfalls this county has suffered, I still feel comfortable with this school and how well our students are doing even though the school has to keep on changing it's structure. My motto is: If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I hope the school continues to thrive.
I have a heavy heart in writing this review. We have been at Beltsville for 2 yrs and have had to remove our child and enroll into a private school. Beltsville would be ok for parents who want a less than steller education for their child. There are few quality teachers -- many are there just for the job --- not because they love what they do. There is no safety. Disipline is not the same for every child. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Do your research and look into the local private schools as well.
I registered my son in a private school before moving into the Beltsville, MD area. Beltsville Elementary is wonderful -- I was uneasy at first being that it is a 'public' school. My son has received a much better education than that of a private school education. I would light recommend Beltsville Elementary to any and all parents.
