I have put three daughters and now two grandsons through Stephen Decatur High School and it is the best of the public schools, tops in the state of Maryland. I prefer this school over the private schools with a top notch education system. Well rounded, the counselors are the best and the teachers have an open communication system with the parents. The sports programs rank very high in the state. My oldest grandson is graduating this year with the youngest a freshman. Colleges know that they are getting the best of students from Stephen Decatur High School.

My son will be graduating this year from Decatur and my husband and I feel that he has received a top-notch education. The academic programs are challenging and the four period day allows kids to focus on fewer academics in greater depth. The teachers reach out to the students and my son has enjoyed the attention and extra instruction. The school itself has been renovated to include more classroom space and enhanced technology. The administrators are reasonable and fair. He will be going off to University of Maryland for college and we feel he is well prepared.

There is always great reviews in the newspaper about the sports. The Curriculumn is high. They have a subscribable newspaper, and a great fine arts (drama) assembly. This school is great! The band and choral specials are spectacular. This school, I think is the best public school around. It also has been renovated, so the exterior and interior is awesome. There is a drama room, a track field, and a large field for sports. In the middle school, there are baseball fields, and another large filed. The track field is al in one, there is pole vaulting, long jump, soccer, lacrosse, and even a football field. This school overall is the best Iv'e been to.

This is a beautiful, newly-rennovated school with some excellent teachers. It's a godsend for us, having moved from the gangs of D.C. One thing I'm not thrilled with is the huge number of students smoking cigarettes AND pot (and yes, on school property). It beats gang violence, but it's not good. Also, the bus drivers aren't all very nice and I find the fact that they segregate boys from girls (with girls to the back of the bus!) very strange. My child prefers to get a ride, rather than deal with the unpleasant driver, so that's a drag. Overall, though, I'd say this is a great school, with teachers and counselors who really seem to care. I just wish they'd get on the drug thing and the bus drivers a bit more.
