I have been involved with CHES since 2006 and seen the growth and improvements made to enrich the students academic experience. I feel the school curriculum could be updated a bit to add to the Special Education Department. It is a welcoming community where my children feel safe and cared for.
I have been involved with Church Hill Elementary School for many years now. I love the community feeling of the school. I wish that the PTA had more people involved. The enrichment program for students is not up to par at all. They really need to challenge students who meet the criteria more. I do feel that the school is very safe and that the Principal cares about the students.
My son just finished first grade at CHES, and we were very pleased with how the year went. At the beginning, we were very hesitant about sending him to public school. But he had a fantastic teacher, very involved, wonderful lesson plans, good interaction. He also rec'd so much assistance and support for his learning disability. The teachers and principal were very understanding and supportive w/ us as parents, as well. The afterschool program was very well organized, with wonderful enrichment projects. We couldn't be happier.
Excellent school. I was an intern at Church Hill this entire past year and I will say that I have had the opportunity to observe and interact in schools in the surrounding area, and Church Hill is by far the best. In response to the above posting about the trips to DC - I'm not sure the experience that this particalar parent had with field trips, but I know that the class I was invloved in took a trip to DC this past year, it may have to do w/ the grade level, but it is not true that they are not allowed to take field trips - they get about 3 a year. You are right however about the school's gifted and talented program and ESOL - improvement is needed in those areas, but I know it is being addressed. Overall - great school, great parent support.
Church Hill is a small elementary school in the countryside, in the village of Church Hill Maryland on the Eastern Shore. We have found the school's quality to be fair. The most wonderful feature of the school is the fact that it is safe. Our child goes there and we are quite happy. They don't seem to have a program for students with special gifts, and the school suffers from the lack of a second language teacher. The administration is not 'forward thinking', but this seems to be the norm on the Eastern Shore. They will not allow educational trips to the Western Shore of Maryland, thus eliminating the posibility of visiting Washington DC and the wonderful opportunities it affords, about 1 hour away!
