This school is unsanitairy. The water fountains are warm which warm water can contain deadly sicknesses. Me and my children have Mono now and about 20 other students have cases of Mono. The school alows the students to get into fights and are alowed to destroy others property. The girls dress innapropriatly for school. They look as if they should be standing on a corner.

Daughter seems to like it a lot. Teachers willing to meet and discuss progress at parents request. No consistent policies between classes. Definitely needs improvement in school office. Not welcoming and big disconnect between school, after school activities, and parent association. Perhaps I'm just used to the smaller private school we transfered from... hmmm...

I dislike this school a lot and I'm not just saying that because I don't like homework or anything of that sort. My family and I have had problem after problem with this school. I admit this school does have some fabulous teachers(3 to be exact), but overall this school is unsatisfactory.

This letter is written to those special parents out there. Not the parents of the easy to manage, self motivated dream kids. I'm speaking to the 'other parents' with the 'difficult' kids. I am such a parent. I live in the trenches of education. Every day's a battle with my child to learn, to go to school; To CARE. I don't know what I would have done without Washington Middle School and their staff. From the compassionate Mr. Smith the Principal. To the care of Tammy the Health Nurse. The Counselor Mrs.Morris, our comrade in arms. The Vice Principal Mr King who was of stern stuff but held his hand when advised by his staff that measures other than discipline were needed. What a treasure they have in Officer Hott changed EVERYTHING. They care folks about education and the emotional development of these children. Such cooperation can not be matched anywhere.

As a student intern, I felt this school was run the best of any of the schools in Garrett and Allegany Counties that I visited or taught.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science. The MSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland.
