In general, this school is great. Individually, there needs to be some work. I have been a parent of this school for 2 years and things went down hill for my son quickly. There needs to be more principal involvement with students and the overall goings on of the school. When things go wrong, I have never spoken to the principal just the vice principal. I would like to see more involvement for the next generation coming up.

School is well organized, great teachers, lacking a little communication between parent and teacher( I have asked for a parent teacher conference 2 times now and still no phone call back from teacher or office) My child is learning at an amazing rate for Kindergarten.

Our daughter has been enrolled at Delmar for two years. Because she is well-behaved and intelligent, she has consistently been lost in the shuffle. They are just now completing a much-needed fence that previously left the children in the portables exposed to the woods behind, especially the smaller children walking to and from portables (by themselves) during the year round program. Also, there is a lack of communication from the PTA and the office to parents so that some parents are not told of awards ceremonies or other activities in advance. Overall, I would rate Delmar as so-so; improvement is under way, but they have much further to go.

As a former educator, this grandmother gives Delmar Elementary high marks. Regular, reasonable homework and clearly defined behavior expectations make it easy to work with these dedicated teachers. Home/school communication is great.

I think the teachers there are very hard working and really care about the students. They are always trying to improve the students understanding with hands-on activities.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science. The MSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland.
