a wonderful school full of great teachers and challenging programs it truly makes kids better people
My son is a sixth-grader who was at the top of his class at Abingdon. Since starting at EMS he has been academically challenged and encouraged. His teachers have been wonderful.
A rigorous middle school education helps students in a difficult transitional age group focus on something other than themselves.
My child feels at home at that school almost as though it is her second home. plus all the teachers look out for the students and talk to parents alot about their children. I also enjoy the fact that you can check out almost every asignment on a thing called edline.com.
I am the parent of a 7th grader and will have another child attending this school next year. As is true with every school. there are things about Edgewood Middle that could be improved. However, my experiences with teachers, counselors, etc. have been positive experiences. My son has learned a tremendous amount academically and has had many opportuntities with Band and other activities that I am not certain would have been available to him at other supposedly 'better' schools. The new administration is dedicated to improving the reputation of Edgewood and getting students the recognition they deserve for their hard work. I am proud of my child and our school.
I have 2 children--one just graduated this year and has been on the honor roll for every quarter since she was in EMS. My son has ADHD and EMS is great with children in the IEP. Both of my children where in the Baltimore County School system and the school that they were in had a great reputation, but did not care about children with so called special needs. EMS has been wonderful with my son. My daughter does not even miss her old school. She can not wait to start high school. The teachers are wonderful and so is the office staff.
This school has a bad reputation, but it is undeserved. EMS is a very diverse middle school with some wonderful teachers.
I have two children who attend EMS. They LOVE it there; it is such a shame that people get caught-up in the negative publicity that surrounds EMS. The teachers want your children to succeed. I have never had trouble getting in contact with a teacher. As a matter of fact, I have had teachers email me to tell me what a pleasure it is to have my children in their classes. I was very pleased that a teacher would take the time to do that. My oldest daughter was invited to apply for the Math and Science program at Aberdeen HS; she feels very stongly about attending EHS instead. My children look forward to going to school (most of the time). Parents, don't upset your childern unnecessarily by bad-mouthing EMS; let them make up thier own minds. As long as you stay involved, they will get a good education.
My son attented Edgewood middle school and we had no problems at all. Sure, there are some problems but all schools have their share of problems. Edgewood has a bad rep and it's a real shame.
I am so very disappointed with this school. My oldest daughter is in 6th grade and I have four other children who will be attending this school. I am terrified, and greatly considering private school. The counter staff in the office are rude at best, principles do not return phone calls, counselors leave much to be desired. I am fed up. This school needs a serious house cleaning. It seems to me they should start from the top down. When will harford county school board realize there are big problems here?
This is a great school. My child gets strait A's and all of the children are cared about. Yes occasionally there are fights but aren't all middle and high schools like that? I am tired of hearing that edgewood is such a bad school when all the others are just like it. Stop degrading all of these capable children!
I have two sons that attend EMS. I am very pleased with the school overall. The teachers do a very good job with helping the kids stay focus. The teachers try to do anything that they can to help my children receive the best education. Thank you everyone at the school, great job!
One of my children attended this school several years ago and my youngest currently attends. I have had nothing but good experiences here, as have my children. EMS has an extremely diverse population, which can lead to problems. Sure, there are parents who send their children to EMS who don't care about their children. This fact does not make it a bad school. This school has a good community feel, so if you feel that it is important to allow your children to experience an education in an environment that simulates real-life experiences, this is the place. My youngest child was in a private school previously and has not received the kind of education he is now getting at EMS. The teachers go out of their way to help students, but they can only do so much. EMS needs parental involvement, as does any school.
I think this school is very violent. One girl was stabbed with scissors. The teachers always have their head up in the clouds. Please go to the school to see for yourself. Or just read the local paper!
This is a big school close to Baltimore City. There are a lot of societal problems entering the school. Teachers and principals are working diligently to eradicate the problems and promote the learning atmosphere. They alone can only do so much. It take a village to make a good school. This village needs to step up to the plate.
i am going to put my child in a private school even though i cant afford it. the school is out of control and there are to many students who are in trouble and will not let others learn. the principal does not seem to know his school or the kids and what to do with them. the assistant principals are do not recognize the problems or know how to correct those who do not wish to control themselves. i think the state needs to take over this school or bring in administration who can clean house of those who are making it out of control.
Edgewood Middle School is a good school. My son has learned alot there. Teachers care about the students. Parent involvement simply augments the positive experience. Teachers are willing to meet with concerned parents during breaks to update them on their childs progress and will notify the parent in writing and by phone if a child is tardy to school, is having problems learning or is maljusted socially. They have an excellent band program, honor roll, awards program and a number of extracurricular that augment student skills and allow them to truly grow and mature. I recommend this school and the community to anyone moving to Harford County, MD.
Most of the teachers don't care about students. Many of them never told me about my son's strange behavior. Turned out to be a medical problem. He kept getting bad grades and they wouldn't tell me any problems until the parent conferences. Principals and teachers ignore poor student behavior. My children had to endure being endangered by other students who use school supplies as weapons. Poor quality special education. They don't keep up with the paper work, forget appointments, and lose children in the system.
I have two students attending Edgewood Middle and I am very pleased with the teacher and staff and how they work with the students towards their educational goals. Any problems or concerns I had were quickly addressed by a teacher, consoler or Asst. Principal.
I wasn't thrilled with my son's sixth grade experience, but I am very pleased with the teacher participation and involvement with my son's success as a person and a student in this last year of middle school! They are marvelous and treat him with concern. They are very good at keeping up with him and his work. They have also been fantastic at letting me lead his education with minimal intervention!
