Cecil Manor is a great school for a typical child. My daughter loves going to school everyday. But for a special needs child like my son it has been a nightmare. I have and still am fighting to get him the help that he needs.
The school is great. All of the children are inteligent kids.
The leadership is very strong ('09-'10 school year) and the teachers are committed to the children. Very positive atmosphere!
The teachers work very hard at CMES. The administration feel apart this past year with discipline and support for students and staff. Students get a good education, but the curriculm does move along quickly with little time for mastery. This is the fault of the district, though, and not the teachers.
I had my son attend this school for 1st grade and I had mixed feeling on how progress was being tracked. The teacher was very helpful in noting to me where my son need help but there was nothing being done to help my son on the school's end. Children that are a little slower are left behind and I its up to them to catch up. In general, its a good school and my son loves the teacher and is looking forwad to going to second grade.
I am the mom of twin Pre-K students and my daughters love the program at Cecil Manor. I feel the teacher is fully preparing the students for Kindergarten. They occasionally have age appropriate homework and really enjoy their daily routine. The principal is always sending home information for parents on the latest in the school, and parents are always given the opportunity to participate. I have been very happy with this past year!
This school tends to move children along from one skill to the next without allowing time for the children to master certain skills. Not enough extra help is available to students who struggle with math or reading. Some of the lessons introduced to the students are not age appropriate. Time spent in these areas would be better spent working on Reading and Basic Math. Children from Cecil Manor are entering Jr. High terribly unprepared.
