The lower elementary teachers are very good. If your child is upper elementary age, please please look elsewhere. Security is lax as anyone can walk into the school and the front office is sometimes not covered. The principal, when you can get a hold of her, is detached and lacks leadership skills. Ask tough questions; ask about teachers' degress and credentials; ask to talk to other parents.
The best school I've ever gone to. Beddow is a school where the students aren't pressured to learn things quickly for tests, they can learn at their own pace, and also learn manners, how to survive in the "adult" world. You couldn't choose a better school than this one. (In MD) Not only did I learn a lot, I also had fun. I HIGHLY recommend this school, no doubt about it.
5 stars all the way. If nothing changes, I plan on keeping my daughter in this school until she's in 6th grade. When I think about education and environment provided the Beddow School I'm so happy that I'm able to send my daughter there. They also have done upgrades on the school, new floors and new doors in front among other things. They also have beautiful flowers starting in spring and I can tell they really take care to beautify the school. Another parent stated that the administration can be frustrating but I've never had any negative experiences dealing with the Admin. Asst. or any one else. (Mrs. Dorchefski has a very matter-of-fact mannerism which I appreciate, but I know some people like to be coddled.) I also like the aftercare my daughter gets.
The teachers at this school are wonderful and very educated. The administration at times can be a bit frustrating, but overall this is a great environment for kids. They learn independently, but with lots of guidance and individual instruction, and also instill behavioral skills that I've never seen in other schools. I do wish the facilities looked a bit nicer, but that's less important than the quality of the education.
Great teachers and a caring environment combined with an excellent curriculum make this a good choice for preschool to sixth grade students.
