The curriculum taught is strictly for the MSA and benchmarks. The students have to share books and are very seldom allowed to bring them home to study-not even for a test. Handouts or any other study aids are seldom seen. There are also some ineffective teachers. Parents are not welcome in some classrooms. How are our children supposed to learn? Bullying is very much alive and well at this school and I don't see much being done to effectively stop it. It sometimes scares me to send my child to school .
Both our boys went to FI. Excellent teachers (all three grades) and active administrative staff.
I chose to keep my child at Fruitland instead of going to Magnet and it was a fantastic choice. The teachers are great and my child doing extremely well. The curriculum is challenging and we are very happy.
awesome everything. I believe that they truely care about our children.
Although FIS is a suburban school, the level of aggressive behavior is unacceptable. The lack of discipline at the school is a direct result of poor leadership by the the principal and vice-principal. The academic program is strictly teaching the MSA test. Creativity and fun are discouraged. Field trips are limited and not always academically related. There are few extracurricular activities available for students other than the after-school program, Destination Imagination [3rd-grade only], and music. The teacher quality is acceptable, but more could be done to encourage more innovation and less teaching to the test. Parent involvement runs the gamut from non-existent to over-involvement.
