Administration and teachers have no control over the classrooms or campus. My freshmen son reports the following; students leaving class without notifying the teacher and slipping back in before bell rings, groups of students in hallways during class, zoo like atmosphere when substitute teachers are leading classroom. I have witnessed students during school hours (not lunch) at local fast food restaurants and students walking in the opposite direction of the school minutes before the first bell is to ring. There is a big lack of leadership at QOHS.
I like this very school ,this is a wonderful school, full of happy and knowledge, the teachers in this school are all good, I love this school!!
Quince Orchard is the worse school ever!!!! Special education teachers this past school and the years before that was the worse years of my kids life. I should have removed my kid from this school from the very beginning. The teacher with the worse experience we have had was with Rori Silver and the aides that helped her. They were horrible!! Rori Silver is not honest and is not qualified to be in this type of special education handling kids with needs. Rori Silver should never handle any special needs children at all. She was also very rude and very arrogant. The nurses are also not so good with handling kids with special needs. The worse school ever!!! Don't go to this school. Run away!!! Go some place else. They will make your life miserable. They left my kid unattended thousand times and they blame the parents for their mistake of not taking good care of them. Horrible counselors and not a good school for any kids.
I'll have to second what a previous parent said about the lack of cultural diversity at the school. The teachers are a mixed bag too. Some are very good and cordial, while others are nasty and unprofessional. I'd also not recommend kids of color to participate in the orchestra as the director needs a lesson in fairness and cultural diversity. Overall, I'd say that my daughter received a good education at QO, but it came at the price of her not having many peers she could relate to.
There is poor class room management and the students are allowed to do what ever they like. It sucks
On a grand scale, this school is not culturally diverse and differences are not respected. The environment is quite insular. Carole Working, the principal, is never involved with the students and teachers who bully students are supported by the administration. My child has been attending about 1.5 yrs and it's been many complaints of select teachings being a bully. There are some teachers who are altruistic but the other bad apple teachers are a hazard to the learning environment. I'm in the process of removing my child from this place as quickly as possible.
All three of my kids attended QO and all had great eperiences. There is a huge diversity of backgrounds due to families from all over the world living in the surrounding neighborhoods. Huge school spirit follows all groups including sports and music& arts. Academically challenging for those who will take the AP classes and while there are a few exceptions, most teachers are great and will provide lunchtime and after school tutoring if needed. Current principal is not as active than the one who retired a few years ago but parent involvement in the Booster Club has never been more robust. I will be sad when my last child leaves this great school.
My daughter just graduated frm this school and had a pretty hard time in her AP classes due to not enough attention and not enough tutoring available. I found the guidance counselor not to be very helpful with her college or career information and guidance she needed. She came here from Florida in her 11th grade year, and struggled with her academics but exceeded in sports. That doesn't really help as far as scholarships are concerned. I was pretty much disappointed and expected far more from a Montgomery County school.
Quince Orchard is great. It has great teachers, the academic level is high, and it also has many clubs in which any student can join. This school has so many different things one can do for extraccuricular activities and they provide help for anyone who needs it. The electives here are really fun too. Plus this school shows great school spirit and helps even the shyest of students increase their social levels.
The academics are strong and they have a well balanced program of music, arts, and sports. There are a large number of AP courses available as well.
The academics are adequete depending on the teacher. The asistant principals are terrific and always get back to you. The school is a very safe environment. So in general the education is okay/good, the environment is safe, the school is clean.
My son goes to Quince Orchard. I am very impressed with the teaching and administrative staff. All are first rate. Should you be looking for a great school for your children, public or private, this is it. Before QO, our son attended a private school for three years (at a cost of $20,000 per year) in Potomac, MD. What we have found is that there is very little difference between one of the best private schools in Potomac, MD and Quince Orchard. On the other hand, his social development at Quince Orchard from a real world perspective is head and shoulders beyond what he was able to attain at the private school. I believe this is primarily due to the cultural and social diversity he has experienced at Quince Orchard. As a plus, our son is much much happier at Quince Orchard than he was at private school.
I graduated in 1995 from Q.O. and loved it! It's a very caring school. The school is first of all, beautiful. The academic experience is second to none. You basically get a private school education free. The teachers do not cut you any slack either, no matter what. The students all strive for A's and are overall successful. Our sports teams were great, all of them. Our band was even amazing. This is definatly the best high school in Montgomery County or at least was when I went there. The students had little conflict between themselves and the staff was great. You will be lucky if you have Mr. Maslow for Government in 10th grade, he's the best!
