My child is currently in Kindergarten at Watkins Mill Elementary and loves it. I must admit after reading the negative comments about WMES and seeing that it was designated as a Title I school I had my apprehension about the school but however after meeting with her teacher prior to the start of school and seeing that she really cared about the job I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. My child has thrived both academically and socially this year once it became obvious that she was excelling in some areas she was challenged to do coursework above her grade level so she would not get bored. Her teacher communicated with me regularly about her progress both good and not so good. I could not have wished for a better kindergarten experience for my child
My child went to Watkins Mill Elementary and she loved it. We have moved all over the local area and have had school with in walking distance and I wouldnt take her out of the school because i have notice the great education that she has resived thanks to the great teachers there that made a diffrefrence. There might have been a few downs but they make sure everything gets better as soon as possible.
This school is over burdened the majority of the community is not involved with their children or the school. A lot of the teachers care but can't possibly handle all of the issues the kids have. This school is a sad example of what happens when parents aren't involved in their childrens education.
Most of the teachers in the school should retire. They are not intrested in making a difference in the community. They seem tired and burnt out. THIS IS A TITLE 1 SCHOOL!!
I love Watkins Mill Elementary School because the staff love our children and treat them with respect and encourage them to learn.
I love how they have the NO KIDS LEFT BEHIND program. It's wonderful how they try to get the parents and children involved as much as possible.
My child attended Watkins Mill for two years. There are serious safety issues that arise from the majority of unsupervised lower economic status children. We moved out of the school district due to these issues.
My child goes to Watkins Mill Elementary School and really loves it. She had a kindergarten teacher last year that was extremely knowledgable, firm and kind. They participated in many field trips (Zoo, Pumpkin Patch, Children's Museum, etc.) This year her 1st grade teacher is just as good. We are really pleased with the leadership of the principal and the education provided, especially in the area of reading. WMES won a reading award last year. They strongly encourage parent participation and make parents feel very welcome. My daughter has now started participating in Bar-T after school and loves it there too. The director is extremely professional and is very aware of the children's needs. I would say WMES is the best. We love it.
Our children have attended Watkins Mill since kindergarten and we wouldn't put them in any other school. There is a real community feeling about Watkins Mill and a sense that everyone there is looking out for our children. The caliber of the teachers is very high and the school deserves praise for the level of education our children are receiving.
