My son describes this school as being, "ghetto". He hasn't been there very long and has already been told by one of his teachers that he felt sorry for him for having transferred to this school. We were moved to this area site unseen, and not by choice. Seeing the riffraff that surrounds the campus, I would have to say ghetto is probably very accurate. Teachers have no control of the students in their classes, which makes it very hard for a child who wishes to learn concentrate. If you're considering moving to this district, keep looking. The area has some of the most affordable housing in the state, but remember, you get what you pay for.

south high was a pretty decent high school to attend. I had a great time while attending this school, and I learned so much from the teachers and faculty.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Maryland used the Maryland High School Assessments (HSA) to test students in English 2, Algebra, and Biology upon completion of each course. The HSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland. Students are required to pass the tests in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.
