My family highly recommends this school. The Tidewater School is a great environment for kids to learn so much and also to feel respected. Each child is treated as an individual--not just as a body at a desk forced to move along at the same pace. They are encouraged to learn how to problem-solve. We love that part of the curriculum incorporates experiences, activities and traditions from different cultures as a way to broaden the educational experience. Anyone who visits the school and talks to the teachers can tell how involved the staff are and how much they care.

This is one of the best schools I have encountered in my extensive research of schools in the area. The teachers are well-trained in so many aspects of child development and learning. Unlike one person's comments here, my husband and I have found the curriculum to be clearly defined and very appropriate. And whenever I have had questions, I had no problem getting answers. The atmosphere at The Tidewater School is so respectful of every student and their families. My child has thrived in this wonderful environment. My only complaint: that this school doesn't go all the way through high school--if it did, we would be here for the entire duration. I highly recommend visiting this school to see for yourself.

What a gem of a school! My daughter went to Tidewater for PK through 5th grade. She was very happy there and was encouraged to ask questions and take chances. Her teachers were so creative and genuine and they really took the time to know her. When she went to middle school, she was a leader, a thinker and an activist. The bonus: I received so much parenting help from teachers and other parents at the school.

My children have gone to the Tidewater School for 4 years (so far) and we love it! It is a wonderful place for children to grow and learn. I have found that the teachers at all levels are very willing to discuss any issues with you and work with you to resolve them. It is a very progressive school and they conduct seminars to help parents understand the school's philsophy and curriculum.

Limited info is offered about exactly what my children are being taught throughout the day (e.g. the curriculum is extremely fluid and not definitive). When I asked quesitons, it was shunned and I was treated in a very condescending way. Additionally, I thought my children were subsequently treated differently. If you chose to send your child/ren there, I suggest you do some homework first and don't ask questions, they are not encouraged.
