HES has come a long way in the last couple of years. The teachers are very nurturing, caring, and knowledgeable. I am glad my children have the opportunity to work with such a great group of educators. Never judge a book by it's cover or what you hear out in the community. It's what's inside that counts.

I totally love Hurlock Elementary School. My children have received a good education with loving and caring teachers who want to teach. The principal is wonderful.

In my opinion, this school has lost sight of the important job at hand...nuturing and educating our children. I saw a lot of political cowardess standing in the way of good decision making. This is not to say that every staff member is lacking, we encountered 3, out of our 5 teachers, that were incredible. The other 2 were intimidating to the point of being frightening to the children. Communication and cooperation are a very weak point. When extra help was needed, I could not count on the school to follow through. My child attended Hurlock for grades Pre-K through 1. A transfer became necessary for the sake of my child's education and well-being.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science. The MSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
