My son went to to hyattsville for k-2nd grade. I was happy with the school and most of the teachers he had. Most go above and beyond to meet the students needs. I agree there was not enough parent involvement at the school or at home, when you see and hear the way the older students behave and speak, but that is not the schools fault. The PTA has done a lot in recent to improve parent involvement, but I did not care for the actual behavior that was allowed by the older kids, towards teachers, staff, younger children and any other visitors/parents at the school.

Teachers, faculty and staff are really committed, innovative and just plain great at Hyattsville ES. Though the school facility itself is more 90 years old there is a certain charm to it. The school has an active PTA committed to helping serve the needs of students and teachers. My only complaint that there is not enough parental involvement but that is slowly changing. Great things are happening at Hyattsville ES!

Hyattsville has a caring teaching staff and principal. They are dedicated. I beleive my son has received a decent education there so far and he has been going there since first grade ( now in fifth). There is a strong emphasis on reading, math and computer skills. The staff is very quick to respond to parental concerns.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science.
