My three children are graduates of Urbana High School. They received the best education and cultural experience a school can offer. Urbana offers IB as well as AP courses which provide an excellent college preparatory program. The choice of courses and sports are many which lead to the students engaging in areas of their individual achievements. Urbana High is also the magnet school for all of Frederick County. I'm proud to say, "My kids are Hawks alumni".

Urbana offers an outstanding high school experience. The community atmosphere is top of the line. The entire town seems to be involved with all aspects of the school - academics, performing arts, and the sports programs. We moved to the Urbana school district 3 years ago based on the reputation and our expectations have not only been met, but have been surpassed!

The school is set up very similar to the college course. You take four 1.5hr classes per semester. It works great since the six or seven class teachers do not coordinate. The area is nice and the school teachers and administrators are almost annoying; however, this is being very detail with each child. We are new here and the School Teacher of the Year and location whatelse can I say.

There is a very large selection of classes at every level. The teachers challange you and do a very good job preping you for college or the real world. It was also a very friendly school with a lot of school spirt and I greatly enjoyed my days at Urbana.

As a former student of Urbana High School, I can say that I am proud to have attended this school. The teachers were always willing to take the time to make sure that each student understood lessons and homework. The academics are outstanding. I participated in many activities at this school including, marching band, drama and sports. I felt extremely safe in this school and I would recommend it to anyone who was looking for an excellent school in the area.

My child transferred to Urabana High School during the middle of the year. We had all the area high schools to choose. After careful study, we chose Urbana. The transition was seemless. The administration and students could not have been more supportive. Most importantly, my child feels comfortable and safe at Urbana. I have other children who have gone through the high school years and subsequently attended great universities. There is no doubt in my mind, Urabana High School is preparing my last child to succeed in life as well.

Just an update for those who might not know: Urbana now offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum as a magnet program for the county, and it's had a recent expansion to ease overcrowding.

As a former student of Urbana High and now a high school teacher myself, I commend Urbana on its dedication to student excellence. I have been in many school districts in three different states and my experiences with Urbana's administration and faculty staffs have been nothing short of the best. Urbana's teachers are highly qualified in their fields and demand high expectations of their students. Your student will succeed at this highschool. The atmosphere is geared towards seeing each student excell beyond even their expectations and is supportive of all ability levels. The campus is large and well maintained and the extra curricular oppertunities abound. The overall environment at Urbana earns my highest praises.

This school is deffinatly a good one, I'm proud to attend it. Our marching band and color guard has gone to Florida twice over the past 2 years! The academics department is spectacular, and the plays are nothing short of amazing. I think it will be a positive thing for colleges to see that I attended Urbana High School, that is if they know about a school in little old Ijamsville! GO WRITERS FORUM!

We have lived all over the country and have had experience with other high schools (including one of the top in the nation). Our experience with Urbana High School has been terrific. The faculty, administration and culture are highly supportive of students and their parents. We have especially appreciated the excellent communication (frequent, consistent) on activities and our child's progress. Parents (especially band parents!) are involved and well organized. Very positive experience.

My daughter graduated from Urbana in 2002. It was an excellent experience for not only my daughter but our entire family. The academic curriculum was top notch. She was challenged on a regular basis to excell. This enabled her to grow. She received an academic scholarship from the college of her choice and is well on her way to acheiving her goals. Parents stay continually involved in every aspect at UHS. The school offers a wide range of extracurrucular activities. The only downside to that is transportation after school. UHS is in a more rural community. Although the surrounding community is growning at a very fast pace. UHS has something to offer everyone. Urbana is an excellent choice for high school preparedness and community involvement.

I find that the constant building and over-crowding is showing a slow, but steady, decline in the education received. Students are moved up to the 'Honors Program' without having the grades, but it 'looks good for the school'. However, this is the same everywhere..... Urbana is a great school, even with these concerns. My kids are enjoying their time here & the school activities really seem to make for 'extended families'. The marching band - one of the best on the East Coast, placing 6th in the ACCs in 2004! I would recommend this school to anyone!!

While I'm not a parent [yet] I was a student at Urbana High Scholl. I have got to say that UHS has been the best school I have ever attended to date. The teachers were some of the best, in my opinion, and had the patiences of saints. I have done a lot of traveling as a child and have been to may schools, both private and public, but UHS still ranks at number one for me.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland High School Assessments (HSA) to test students in English 2, Algebra, and Biology upon completion of each course. The HSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland. Beginning with the class of 2009, students are required to pass the tests in order to graduate. The goal is for all students to pass the tests.
