I love JHS because I am a junior varsity cheerleader and get to cheer for one of the best high school football teams ever! Also my teachers are Awesome!!!!
I believe this school is great for everyone! The staff is great and you always have something to do! If you stop by make sure to check out the library, it's like my other home from home
Im a parent and the teachers update edline alot. I love the school. They call me right away when theres a problem. We have some troubled kids comming from different back grounds and they are dealing with it well.
I belive tihs school is a great school to attend it is really diverse and your child will make freinds quickly. Some things are true about the kids being disruptive but that isn't in ever class.I'd say about 3out of my 9 classes are the classes were students are most disruptive. But sometimes it isn't really the student its they way the teacher is teaching.I say this because those teachers really dont grade your attention or make the lesson intresting. Also the students on sports teams don't get special treatment.I think they get treated worst because they have more on there plate and teachers tend to hold it over there heads. Finally if you want extra help all you have to do is come after or before school kids just have to take advantage of it which they dont.I love this school and im looking forward to my next 3 years at this school.
i am a former graduate from joppatowne high..i will have to say that all of those reviews are not true..the parents know nothing about what really goes on inside that school..all of the teachers i had were amazing..child care and foods class were my favorites by far..i used to be bad in math but then a new teacher came in and then it was so much easier.i really enjoyed my time there.and yes there are times when the other students are dissruptive and rude.but if you ignored them as i did..you will find yourself to do better.. and not be into all the drama.no matter where you go there will always be bad times in high school..and there have been times where the teachers dont care and the staff as well..i learned to deal with thngs myself.and that seems to get the job done.overall, i did enjoy my 4 years there.
I used to like this school but i has went downhill most of the teachers care but they really lack the resources and kids who are on sports get special attention from some teachers i am in the homeland security course it is fun and a lot of money went into it i wish they would have spent money elsewhere like books or resources for teachers I used to be a straight A student but the kids who dont care are really disruptive now i have a 2.5 grade average just because the kids are so disruptive that the teachers are spending all period writing referrals
The money seems to go to the sports and the AP eligible students. The majority of the student body is left behind to struggle on its own. And if your child needs that little 'extra help,' you are really out of luck. The students that are severly disabled seem to be well handled too, but the ADD/learning disabled but otherwise normally functioning children are really badly handled. No one wants to help them, no one has time for them and their needs and an otherwise bright and happy teen becomes miserable. I know a few children that have left and immediately passed their GED with flying colors. These teens aren't unintelligent, they are either not understood or not adequately managed by the current administration.
My experience with Joppatowne was so overwhelming I cant agree with the others who have rated this school as a teacher quality school being 4 stars. There is maybe a hand full of teachers that truly care. As for the Administrators forget it. If you are on the sports team and are doing well on the team, they really dont care about your grades. I have wittnessed this personally.
We have new administration and new teachers. They changed things to make it be more organized but it seems like there is more confusion.
The quality of your experience at this school is dependent upon the curriculum choices your child makes. If your child can qualify for honors or AP classes, they will have a very positive experience at this school. The teachers respond and give their utmost effort to students who are willing participants in their education. I also believe they react favorably to parents who act as partners in education, as opposed to reactionary combatants, ready to defend their child, instead of assessing each situation by it's own merit. My son, a 2007 graduate, thrived and excelled at JHS.
