Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This school has been a TURN AROUND school and I would know coming from a 7th grader going on to 8th this year. Yes theirs some incidents like in any other school but this is a good school to me. I've made honor roll all 4 quarters with a 3.7. And the teachers really do care about us.

With the exception of a few honors 'houses,' the students run the school. The teachers do their best but get little support from the administration or parents. The extended school day is a waste because the kids are bouncing off the walls and most class time is wasted by disruptive behavior. Those few teachers who attempt to put their foot down have left or been forced out by the administration.

I must say this is the worst school EVER. My daughter is an honor roll student and she has YET to have an honor roll assembly i asked the staff in the office when will they have one and all they can do is tell me "I dont know".. so sad it seems to me like they dont wanna acknowledge the kids who are doing well. But this will be my daughters first and last year there. The kids also curse the teachers out and the kids. #sadschool

It's sad that the teachers of yesterday aren't the teacher of today. You can tell which teachers really teach becaue it show's on the student's report card and the student wants to learn more.

I am a former student of G. James Gholson Middle School. I am now in the 11th grade enrolled in a public school in new Jersey. But as a student at Gholson, my 7th grade year was terrible. I was being bullied because of my ethnicity, my name, my size, and because I didn't always have the latest in fashion. But my 8th grade year was much much much better. Ever since Ms. Robinson, Ms. Compton, & Mr. Goins came that school changed for the better. Disciplinary wise, and academics too. I didn't want to leave. I felt safe, and was rewarded for my good doing. Hopefully out stays that way. I plan to come visit the administration soon.

G James Gholson Middle School, named after an educational giant has the opportunity to be a world class school. Too many individuals who are willing to go out into the community and speak negative about the school are among those who send young people into the building each day who come here to weaken the level of excellence so many have fought for. To do better, must be more than a verbal statement. There must be action behind those words. How does a building improve if the people who walk inside are joking and playing all day? Schools are a place of business. We are here to prepare young people to be prepared and self sufficient to go out into the world and make things happen. This is a middle school. There are expectations of middle school students that cannot be compromised. High School and Life in general does not compromise when it comes to excellence. When young people leave school unprepared they jeopardize their future and the future of others. It is unfortunate that children are bullied. However, there are adults who bully others everyday. We cannot talk about leadership. Children must be led by example to have some sense of what great leadership looks like.

This school is a disaster. My daughter is being bullied both online and offline. The ones involved have yet to be suspended or have faced an disciplinary action other than a talking too. I have been to the school multiple times and filled out reports with proof of the bullying that has taken place. Today I learned that it became physical and the one who put their hands on my child - nothing was done. NOTHING. Let's not talk about the science class that has not had a teacher since November. One of the teachers forgot and or didn't know who my child was and was in the class. This school is failing the students. The kids are out of control and reckless. They do whatever they want. Each time I have been to the school there has been a fight. I shadowed my child for a day, the language that is used, the way the kids run the halls and behave is an otricity. Some of the teachers try but its not enough. I will do everything in my power to shine the light on what goes on behind closed doors. The principal is MIA. Horrible school. Something must be done because the kids are going to suffer. School is for education it is not a place for a battle.

Im not one of the kids that cuss and yell and are ignorant if you thought that. I get striaght A's because my teachers push me to learn. I love Mr.Goins, Ms. Cross, Ms.Robinson, and Ms. Compton. This is the first school year out of all my years of going to school that im actually ready to go back

this school is bad because of the students and the teachers. the students are not listening but the teachers are just making it worse by just not even doing anything about their behavior. they dont give out any homework and, during the winter break, i had to go home and print out my winter break packet on my own and then complete it! isnt it the teacher's job to supply the students with the necessary paper work? parents, i am telling you, if you send your child to this school, you will blame yourself for your actions. THIS SCHOOL MUST BE CLOSED DOWN!

G. James Gholson is a modern day Eastside High. This school should be closed down. Some kids should not be in this so called turn around school. I visited this school on several occasions. Some parents should be ashamed of themselves. They know their children are ''OFF THE CHAIN'' The teachers are not the problem its the students who show no respect. Clearly if the children don't care why should the parents. The police presence is strong at this school. I hear more yelling than talking. Kids cursing... they don't care who's around. Fights are daily, maybe hourly. If you have a 6 grader who's entering middle school. PLEASE DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT SEND THEM TO THIS SCHOOL. YOU WILL SEE A CHANGE IN YOUR CHILD THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.

This school should be closed down, it's a mess at G. James Gholson Middle School. Everyone is OUT OF CONTROL, STAFF AND STUDENTS. Seven years ago my oldest daughter attented this school and it was great for her and us her parents. My second daughter for the past two years it has been a living hell for all of us. My third daughter will not be attending this school. June 5,2011

Im sorry but im not sure what you parents are thinking is going on in gholson. This is my first year at gholson and its only second quaarter and im ready to transfer already.Mr.Parker says if we wear vests hats jackets or even a sweater hes gonna take it and we cant get it back until june and thats only if our parents come and get it. Also you parents might think we are reading alot which we are but parker sells the books every month for $1 and theres a book of the month celebration which is a celebration for the kids who brought the book but noone will really know if we read the books. He says theres a test we take but it never got around to any of myclasses nor anyone elses. Most of the teachers take their control to far.Im starting to hate this school.

My child is in his second year at G James and he asked to be transferred because he doesn't feel safe. The children are disrespectful and in some cases the teachers have no control over the class rooms to no fault of their own. I think one of the problems is that all the troubled students are placed in class together.

Mr. Parker has made a difference at our school. Now u have people reading more books than we have ever read. He has us enjoying the books that we read. He also has our head out of the streets and into our books. Mr. Parker makes learning fun. And Im not just saying this to be nice. Its true!

My son attends Gholson and is in the 7th grade. This is the worst school I have ever seen in my 32 years upon this earth. It seems like something out of a movie where children run everything. There is no discipline and no respect for the teachers. You would think if a parent was in the classroom that would be enough to make kids settle down, like we use to back in the day, but they still act crazy. They get up when they want, go where they want and say whatever they want in school. The teachers act as if they could care less about the students behavior or education. I want my child to structure at home and at school but at Gholson it will never happen. I am pulling my son out of this school for his 8th grade year.

My daughter attends G James & I have to say the kids have absolutely no respect for teachers. I have sat in 2 of my daughter classes & it was chaos, the childrean were out of control & I can't see how that's a productive environment for children. the discipline is not good at all & needs to be more strict & structured. I must say the only teacher that seems to have control & get a good performance out of the students is Mr. Moore the Music teacher but other than that, I would not recommend my child to goto this school but she's only been there for 4 months & I think it's just PG county school system & I've had enough of it so this will be the last year experience of PG county lack of caring for our youth future..

I have three kids who attend this school. This school allows children to run it and there is no discipleship at all. Not to mention alone. I feel as a parent if my children are in school for 8 hours then they should at least have the disciple that I provide at home. That seems impossible at this school for my kids roam to and fro with no supervision and when I am confronted with the problem the situation is more than it really is. Then when they do attend school its supension the very next day...This is a form of telling the kids that it is okay to do what they want with no rules in place. What are you doing Gholson Middle School? In leaving no child behind, you are certainly leaving a lot behind.Teachers wake up...

I have a daughter attending Gholson this school year as a 7th grader. In my opinion some, not all, of the teachers are very nonchalant toward the progress of the students and there is a terrible discipline issue. The school staff needs to be more strict. Alot of the students behavior is unreal. It's to much fighting, and the profanity I've heard personally is terrible. I'll be enrolling my daughter in another school for 8th grade.

I am a parent of my child that attends Gholson.I trully think that school should have more remodeling because i visited the school and looked at the restrooms to see what the condition was.It was terrible.I talked to the administaters and they said that they cannot fix the problem and I was dissapointed. Our children should have a nice sanatairy restroom to use.Not stools written over with abusive lanugage and toliet seat with footprints. ~Parent~

I have a student that attends this school and to date I have had no problem. Recently I've come across a lack of professionalism in the main office from the staff as well as the Upper Management team. The Vice Principals are not equipped with enough knowledge and they are not very helpful when a parent needs them. There may be some teachers/staff that care about the students, while there are many others who are there for a check and can be very ignorant. I've also come across several staff members who seem to fabricate stories to get students that they dont' like out of their class. This school needs a revamp and re-education of its staff.

I think the school shouldn't wear uniforms it is costly for 5 kids. Also the school doesn't take action to the bad behaviors of the kids.

One of my children started at Gholson the first year it opened. Overall, I think the school is mediocre at best. Though I was very impressed with the special education counselors, I was disheartened by the fact that the school administration does not make the children adhere to school policies. On top of that, the administrative office staff seem to have an 'attitude' when you call the school. I have another that will be starting the 2005 school year. I hope that things have gotton better.

I am a current student at Gholson. This is my second year and I have not seen a school with better administrators or teachers. The teacher are very skilled and (some of) the students are ready to learn. Everyone should give this school more credit than it already has.
