I am completely dissatisfied with this school. I believe the school has been fraudulent in what it offers and what it actually delivers. You do not pay that tuition for unskilled, un-credentialed, and incompetent teachers.
Strongly recommended Shabach is an excellent Christian based school. Our daughter received an exceptional graduate. What we greatly appreciated was that the students are challenged daily and nurtured in a safe environment. We are so pleased that our daughter has consistently tested well--at the college level while in middle school as a result of the education received from this Academy. She has excelled in math and loves English--hopes to be an English major. She was accepted into both Elizabeth Seaton and Bishop McNamara during her first attempt--testing well enough the first time. She also came in 2nd in a recent PG County wide oratorical contest. In addition, the extra curriculum activities at Shabach are exceptional. The Dance program led by Mrs. Carter truly nurtures and allows young girls to grow. We are truly pleased with the education our daughter has received during her 8 years at Shabach! Thank you First Baptist
My niece started here in nursery school and the teachers and staff have been excellent in her growth. Thanks to Ms. May and Ms. Cheryl and all the teachers who have helped her. She went until after 6th grade due only to distance. Keep up the good work. Love you all
I went to shabach from 5th through eight grade and it was a great experience. I graduated in the class of 2010. There were times when I didn't like some of the schoolspolicies and teachers, but looking back it was great i have made lifelong friendships and will remember many of the people forever. You gain great relationships with the teachers and the staff. The school prepares you well for high school and for life in general. The entire school feels like a family and everyone knows each other. I went to a high school that wasn't a good match for me in 9th grade but I am going to one of the top high schools in the country next year and I got accepted to many others
I love this school. My son has been here since elementary school and I am very satisfied. He's now in middle school and doing a great job. They do not have a science lab, but they do have a nice computer lab. My son come home and teaches me things that he's learned. They are responsible for doing a lot of writing and I love this. I love the way that the teachers make my son feels like he's home away from home. You would love this school, just make sure that your child stays on top of their assignments.
This is a great school for an Elementary level education. After that, look elsewhere. The Foreign Language class is simply using Rosetta Stone at school and at home. No foreign language is actually spoken in the class. What a waste. Computer Technology is a joke. The Science, Math, History and English/Writing is improving however it is still not up to par. If you are seeking a good middle school education, this is not the school for you. My child has attended this school for all Elementary school education and is now in the Middle School but when the year is over, we are out of here. Its sad too because of the history developed with the school but my child's education is suffering and High School is not a game.
My children have been in this school since Kindergarten. They were with Mrs. Lee and Mr. Barnes. The school was excellent when Mrs. Lee was there. It became very disorganized and went downhill when Mr. Barnes was the principal. I had decided not to send my children back. However, when I found out that Mrs. Lee was coming back, I immediately signed them up. Mrs. Lee is an EXCELLENT Administrator. She has a vision for the school. She cleaned up a lot of the mess made by Mr. Barnes and still has a tough road ahead of her. Not every school is perfect. I have learned that if the leadership has the right vision and the parents are involved, the school will improve and your child will benefit from it. Importantly, the parent must be involved with the child at home. The teachers cant do it all. I recommend this school.
I posted previously that I thought this school was improving each year. However, this will be our last year. The new administration does not live up to all what everyone said it would be - my child is not excelling and I feel as if every question I present to staff (with the exception of the business office managers) is met with defensive, prejudged answers and the warm, family-like atmosphere has left the building. I wish the school the best, but I can't wait for the end of the school year.
I graduated last year from Shabach. I have been there my whole life. In my fisrt several yeasr shabach was excellent on all levels. However, when the president Mrs. Lee left things become a little unorganized. Now that Mrs. Lee has come back I'm sure Shabach will be excellent and I strongly encourage you to send your child there.
I have been at shabach christian academy for 6 years and watched it go from great to not so good when the leadership changed in 2006. Now, the former principal is back and the principal and vice prinicipal have been let go. I did not enroll my younger child because i was not sure until i went to the parent meeting and knew the old Shabach was back. I know the leadership of Ms. Lee and i want my younger daughter to experience what my older did under the leadership of Ms. Lee. I am looking forward to the new school year.
My daughter is currently enrolled in the elementary program at Shabach. I love the school. Especially the balance between education and spirituality. I know several people who have taken their children out but found that many removed their children for financial reasons but were reluctant to admit that. I would recomment the school to anyone looking for a solid education for their child but i would also remind parents that schools can't do it all. If the parent is not parenting at home (reminding the student to study, do homework, monitor test results, etc) the child will not succeed anywhere.
After 4 years my cheldren were not prepared academically or mentally to be sucessful students. the middle school is downright awful and needs to closed down. The teachers are ill prepared specifially in Math and the administration lacks the ability or leadership to resolve even minor problems.
I concur with a previous poster, since the new principal has taken leadership, the school has gone downhill. Registration process and waiting list is confusing and it is tough to get answers from the administration about how the system works. The school is disorganized and the staff and administration don't keep the parents abreast of information. Staff don't seem to be happy and the classrooms are constantly changing (moving teachers around without their consent). The school is rigid in their rules for outsiders but seem to change the rules for kids of staff (i.e. moving kids from classrooms outside of the established time periods).
SCA is not the best school in the state of Maryland. It's average, but was 'great' under the former principal. The current principal doesn't have the leadership qualities to advance SCA forward. The school is disorganized and staff is not abreasted of key information. We left SCA after 8 years (K - 7th grade). Elementary school was good, but the middle school program needs improvement. The MS teachers lack class management, organization and the students are not challenged or given sufficient information/guidance to master or grasp critical material. We really wanted our child to attend eighth grade and graduate from SCA. However, we were not confident or given the assurance that our child obtained the necessary skill set for entering high school (college prep level). Nevertheless, I do wish the school well and much success in the future.
i just love this school. it is definetly the best school in the state of Maryland.
We have left this school this year. Since the new principal has taken leadership, the school has gone downhill. In the past, there used to be a waiting list, now they can't get enough people to register. The school is too disorganized and the staff and administration are struggling to keep abreast. People are leaving in droves. Please investigate this school before enrolling your child. I used to love it, now I'm glad we're going to a different private school.
The overall environment of Shabach has been a great place for my two children to grow and learn. They both have tested over their grade levels in reading, math, and most subjects, and their critical thinking skills have progressed with the way the curricular is taught.
My two pre-school children attend Shabach! and I am very pleased with the level of care they receive. I taught my four-year old how to read, but I have to give all the credit for teaching her writing skills to Shabach! All of the staff is friendly and they seem to care aobut the students. They seem to know them all by name. Early morning drop-offs are a bit confusing, as much of the staff is not there at 6:45, but other than that it's terrific. I am also very impressed with the summer program. My daughter loves the field trips.,
make sure you read and understand their policies and ask as many questions as possible. not all the rules are written and they seem to make them as they go. the principal will side with the teachers even if it is not written in the handbook.
Shabach! Academy has far exceeded my greatest wishes. My daughter's first year there was school year 2005-2006 as a kindergartener. I love the balance between education and spirituality. The spiritual lessons being taught are then recycled by actual practice in the classroom. The financial sacrifice required for private school education is well worth it at Shabach! Academy. I hope God blesses them to extend on out to high school grade levels!
