I have 4 year son that goes there. He has development delay, but ever since he has started going there I have seen a lot of progress. I love this school. Teachers are outstanding.
This is our 4th year at Gorman Crossing and we love the school. One of our children had an IEP for the first 3 years and during that time i thought he received amazing support from all the staff, not just his immediate Special Ed teachers. He has now dropped the IEP and has thrived in the regular inclusive environment. We also love the diversity there. Our kids have gotten a superb education and have a great attitude about school - we couldn't be happier.
Read comments about IEPs when we moved here, but wasn't concerned because it didn't affect us yet. First child was in GT classes and did very well as he would anywhere. Second child has been released from an IEP twice now just to lose ground and have to start over. He has a disability and gets zero accommodation. If your child is not "normal", you will have some long painful years here.
I am so happy that my child is no longer at Gorman Crossing. While the principal was very warm and inviting. The 5th grade team was very standoffish and did not nurture and make the children feel welcomed. It really was very disheartening to see my child come home every day (180) and have a sad look on her face. I think that the 5th grade team should be replaced with teachers who care about the students and want to educate and nurture.
I have to kids that go here. One has an IEP, and I couldn't be happier. Parents need to be involved, volunteer. As for the 48 hrs. notice comment, I have never heard of that. The school has an open door policy. You can and I have many times popped in to see whats happening and check on things, you only have to stop in the office and get a visitors pass for safety reasons.
My two children attend Gorman Crossing. We have been extremely pleased with the school. The teachers and staff are caring and commited to providing a positive learning experience and environment for the children.
GCES is an excellent school, very caring staff and principal, focused learning environment and great parent community. We definitely would recommend this school to other parents.
Very caring and motivated staff. Lots of of extracurricular activites for parents, students, and staff to participate in.
No school is perfect, but the staff at GCES comes close. Both students and staff come from diverse backgrounds with much to offer. Be active in the PTA, support the program, and continue to make it a great place to learn!
My children have gone to this school for the last four years and our experience just gets better each year. Mrs. Dutterer is fabulous, as mentioned by another reviewer. They have an active music program with two concerts each year. The teachers and administrators are really caring people, and are committed to the success of the children. All in all, this is a really great school.
It is a wonderful school, with a well trained and caring staff. I appreciate the opportunities to get involved with the classroom activities, field trips and PTA events. For those parents with IEP issues, I can understand your concerns and want the best for your child, but would judge the school on a case by case basis.
I have to agree with the others that if you have a child with any kind of special needs, whether they have an IEP or not, this may not be the best school for you. On the other hand, if you have a good student already, the school is the best. Of special note about the school is the school psychologist, Mrs. Dutterer, who has implemented a great program for teaching students about how to handle their behavior and their emotions using self-monitoring techniques that some parents could use themselves.
the principal and staff can seem great, they do great things there. If your child has an IEP.There better off some where else!
Great school for elementary students....not so great if you have a child on an IEP. 48 hours notice required to walk past the front door (what are they hiding anyway?) You really get the feel of 'us against them' I had heard great things, so we bought a house in district. Now we are moving to get away from this place. Check it out for yourself before you let the test scores fool you.
The school is great, the Principal is awesome, and the children are in a motivating, clean, and safe environment. Parental involvement is key, and as long as the parents stay involved and continue to support the staff, Gorman Crossing will only get better and better.
Wonderful school- very active PTA and community. I am so impressed with the teachers- one example being that every year there is a 'Fun Run' 5k, and so many teachers take their Saturday and participate. There are also excellent Gifted & Talented offerings for students- 'Wordly Wise' for vocabulary; mini-seminars open to all students who are interested; G/T math; after-school theatre; the list goes on. Parents at GCES tend to be very supportive and involved, and the school benefits tremendously- a great learning environment for children.
We have one child at GCES and love it. The teachers, principal, staff are all amazing. There are a lot of advanced course offerings and the students are very motivated to learn. A wonderful school with a lot of parent and volunteer support.
