We have just moved back to Lexington Park and were districted for Green Holly. The school does not understand the needs of the military child and the stresses that come from moving every 2-3 years nor do they take into account data shared in the records from their last school. Green Holly does a great job of meeting the needs of its Title 1 and Special Education students because funding is involoved. Administration only cares about their MSA test scores and teach to the test. The educational bar is set to the lowest standard. If you have a child above grade level or "gifted" they can not meet your child's needs. Green Holly does not encourage parental involvement/volunteering or keep parents informed about events going on. The phone system for announcements is not used consistently, the front billboard is not updated, and the website is not kept up to date. Administration views parents as adversarial instead of as educational partners. It is very sad when the current educational motto is "No Child Left Behind" and those that are above grade level are left behind.....

Until the principal changed in the 07/08 school year, we were very happy with Green Holly. Since the change, we are much less so. There is a great lack of parental involvement at the school and always has been. The general atmosphere at the school is not a pleasant one. I understand that it is exceptional for special needs children, but feel that overall it is a shining example of teaching to the tests. I feel fortunate that we will be moving at the end of this school year and hope that we will find a better situation for our children.

Green Holly Elementary surprised me. I recently moved to Lex Park from Charles County and didn't believe that I'd find a school that would suit my childs educational needs. Green Holly believes in the 'No Child Left Behind' Act and truly take it to heart. I have been kept abreast of my childs progress from the start of her tenure there. And the Boys & Girls Club after school program is a Godsend. I'd truly have to give kudos to Green Holly for exceeding my expectations!!!!

Don't let outward appearances fool you. It's the special education teachers who will push to get a child the services she needs. So skip the admin and go right to the teacher for help!

I have found that this school has a great teacher staff that gives all the students special attention and help were needed. They have a full range of extracurricular activities and a wonderful onsite after school care facility. I myself am a parent volunteer and find that I am not alone in this task. Many parents volunteer time in the classroom and on fieldtrips. Green Holly encourages parent and gaurdian involment in the classroom and at the school. I am extremly happy with this elementary school.

My daughter has special needs and in the past at her last school she had a lot of problems getting the help she needed and since we have been Green Holly they have been wonderful about making sure she gets what she needs and for that I'm grateful.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science.
