Fantastic school. I graduated several years ago and am just now realizing how lucky I was to attend Middletown. The teachers are excellent with a few exceptions, but I felt that the quality was uniformly high. Great sports programs and extracurriculars, always opportunities for students to do something outside of school. AP classes are a big focus with many talented teachers and bright students. The student body is generally great; I saw no evidence of racism other than the few idiots that come with every graduating class. Community is safe. Over 60% of students attend a 4-year university afterwards, with names like Princeton, UC Berkeley, and Stanford coming up in the list of schools attended by graduates. Overall a top-tier school with passionate, effective teachers and achievement-hungry students.
Having graduated from this school over 20 years ago, I am now the parent of a freshman son at MHS. He loves it, enjoys his classes and comes home with a funny story every day from one of his classes. He says that he doesn't see any problems b/t the lower class men and upperclassmen, but then again, the freshman have their own "academy" so he doesn't interact with them except for Spanish, Photography and lunch time. The 90 min long 4 period a day are long and I wish they'd go back to the 7-8 periods they used to have, but the kids get through it. While the teachers are excellent (so far) and the extra curricular options are great, I only wish the kids had more than 1 semester of required gym/health for the 4 years they are there. As for the drug (including OTC) problem, yes there is an issue like at other schools in the US. When I went, it was a drinking problem; I never took part in that. However, many of these kids come home to an empty house and have too much free time and $...be the best parent you can and teach your child well. Be involved in the school, also. PTA is wonderful there!
Has a core of first-rate teachers. They seem to be able to keep the inevitable duds in line. Same with the high-achieving kids. They're a part of the school. Not oddities.
Overall a good school - it was even better when I went there almost 15 years ago in my opinion. In my expreiences and through conversations with local law enforcement, there is a 'big' drug problem - to quote a county sheriff. Extracurricular activities are some of the best in the county. Acedemics are very good too. As far as the racism goes, I've never seen anything to support those claims in the 35 years I've been in the area, but then again I am white.
I am a former graduate of Middletown High class of '99 and feel honored that I had the opportunity to attend there. I recently graduated college and feel that the teachers and classes I took at Middletown greatly prepared me for the challanges I faced in college and now in the work world. A big thanks to all my former teachers. I also played athletics at the school and participated in vocal ensemble and the FFA. There is something for everyone and the community supports all school needs. A great place to attend school!
Middletown High School excels in everything from academics to sports. Middletown is very safe and very friendly, I hope if you are considering your child to go a school in this surrounding area you will pick Middletown.
One of the best public schools academically I have ever seen. Large number of AP courses with talented teachers who know their subject and care about their students performance. Wide range of extracurriculars. Safer than the vast majority of high schools. A dozen or more very motivated and smart students in every class graduate with perfect GPA's throughout HS. This is what many public HS's should strive to be.
A fairly good school if teachers did not regard themselves as total authorities in the field. Pricipal needs to take things more seriously. Students are non-excluding to other races. More predjudiced against their own race, really. Football and Basketball seem like spotlight sports, even though many other great sports are present.
An excellent school academically, and a great place for athletes as well. Predominantly white, as is the community. There's no blatant racism as far as I can tell and my kids are 'minority' students. As the community itself becomes more integrated (which it will because new people are moving in all the time) I'm sure any lingering 'racism' will dissipate.
Racist Scool don't, only good if you are white. The students and teachers feel they are the best in the world. Will not prepare your children for the real world.
