My husband and I love the personalized attention our children receive at St James Academy. The teacher committment and involvement is outstanding. We couldn't have found a friendlier, more nurturing school for out children.
St. James Academy is a beautiful state-of-the-art Kindergarten through Grade 8 facility in Monkton providing academic excellence. It is a very special place that provides individual attention to its students in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Each child emerges from his/her car in the morning greeted by a smile and excited to start his/her day treasuring what SJA has to offer. Every student, each with his/her unique qualities, fulfill a very special role at SJA. Its teachers, staff, and administration forever impact the development of our children. For many of them, their years spent at SJA are longer than most will attend their high school and college together. SJA students graduate fully prepared for a very rigorous high school program as they have been provided an exceptional foundation for their continued education and are quite successful. We are blessed to have sent both our children to SJA. The SJA experience is truly a great investment!
The best decision my family ever made. A challenging yet nurturing environment where the student to teacher ratio allows for any child to grow. A beautiful campus with an incredibly well rounded experience for any child. Proud to be a part of this school!
As a long standing parent of the Saint James Academy community, I am proud to say that my two children could not have received a better educational experience. The faculty and staff took the time to get to know them as individuals, meet them where they were academically and stretch them so that they could fulfill their potential. I am happy to say that they have successfully moved on to competitive independent high schools.
When I became a member of the SJA faculty, I immediately felt at home and was made a member of the community. I would not want to work anywhere else. Parent involvement is strong, aprreciated, and encouraged. There is not one teacher at SJA that is unhappy with their job. Teachers remain at Saint James until retirement. Parents show a lot of respect for teachers. I always feel appreciated. Children in the classroom are cared for individually. The children are celebrated and loved. Every morning we recite the honor code of Saint James Academy and we live by it. All religions are accepted with open arms and minds. Weekly chapel lessons are light, comforting, and enjoyable to students. Saint James is very strong academically. Homework is given everyday. I would recommend this school to all families. There is 0% tolerance for bullying and a program IS in place should it occur.
Yes, GREAT staff. Wonderful curriculum. Lots of art, music, and theater. BUT, my child was bullied horribly, so we pulled him mid-year. There is no anti-bullying program in place because, as I was told, 'no program meets their needs'. We found it hard, to nearly impossible to gain entry to the social aspect of the school. Children there show a feeling of entitlement. If you happen to fit in, it's a great place. If you are not cut from a conservative cloth, you will find it difficult here. No issues with other religions attending. Weekly Chapel services are generally non-inflammatory and kind.
Lots of bang for the buck with this school! Incredible staff and great learning opportunities 'outside the box'. A great family community to boot. Take a look and consider this school for your child.
What a fabulous school and community. This is a parochial school but comfortable for families outside the Episcopal faith which we are. Top notch teachers and administrators make you feel like a real part of the school and up to speed always with your child's progress. Difficult to be accepted here so apply in October and don't be discouraged if you are waitlisted. A bit pricey but worth every penny and on par academically and in prestige with the downtown Baltimore schools which are a bit more. If you are looking for a higher end education with or without religious affiliation be sure to visit the beatiful campus. Loads of 'prep school type' extra-curricular activities like equestrian, laX, tennis, soccer, field hockey, great music and drama programs including private lessons incorporated into the school day. Unless you are looking at Exeter and Andover you can't do any better.
