Mt. Harmony may be the best school in the state. I have two children that attend this school and compared to others in this area and in Texas (where we lived) it is night and day. Great teachers and a challenging, strong curriculum. I highly recommend this school to anyone living in the northern Calvert County area.

My children and I have had the pleasure of being part of the Mt. Harmony family since 2000...and it is a FAMILY! As a parent of a student that needed additional services through IEP, I can not say enough about the quality education my son received during those years. In my opinion, class sizes are small, which I feel gives the child an opportunity to receive individual help when needed. Also, the teaching staff is spectacular. During my time at Mt. Harmony, I have worked with 13 individual teachers and each one has always addressed my concerns with an open mind and given me advise along with teaching strategies to assist my children. The administration is also wonderful. Their goal is to make each individual student a success.....and boy have they (teachers & administrators) done just that!

I love Mt. Harmony!! We moved here from Ca earlier this year and, after much research...decided to only look for a house in put us at Mt. Harmony Elem. because we wanted to have our boys only attend this school. Mr. Navarro is a huge part of the sucess of this school. He knows every child at this school by name and is a hands on principle. I can't say enough about Mt. Harmony-the teachers, staff, and parent volunteers are fabulous. Mt. Harmony has gone beyond my expectations of great school.

We moved and became part of the Mt. Harmony Elementary family last year. We originally were looking in southern AA County until we started checking out schools. We are very grateful we did our homework and ended up at Mt. Harmony Elementary! Our children came from Private school and were not behind, but did struggle to keep up, which was of great surprise to us because we anticipated them being ahead of the public school curriculum. Mr. Navarro is a huge influence on the success at Mt. Harmony. He welcomes parent volunteer and the PTA & School makes you feel completely welcome when volunteering. We love Mt. Harmony!

As of 2006, Mount Harmony has higher MSA test scores than any other elementary school in the area. In fact, it was recently written up in the Washington Post for its outstanding student achievement. The level of parent involvement is extremely high. The PTA actively encourages volunteerism in all aspects of the school community, and there seems to be a wonderful partnership between the parents and school staff. Mr. Navarro, the principal, could be characterized as enthusiastic and caring. You can tell he puts his heart into the job. Mount Harmony is a great school. Even though my family could afford to send our children to private school, I would not even consider it with such an outstanding public school available to us.

I'm a little concerned about the falling percentages on the test scores I just read on 'no child left behind'...the principal rules with almost an iron fist ala the old 'catholic school' principles--seems at odds sometimes with parents...not enough devoted to the 'whole person' concept, i.e. extra-curricular activities like organized swimming clubs/teams are frowned upon in the county - no facilities in county....no real-time involvement in physical education, etc. But overall, very positive public educational experience.
