Love this school! my daughter went to Pittsville, has since graduated from Parkside, and college, my son is now a junior at Parkside, and in the National Honor Society, my youngest son is now in fifth grade at Pittsville, straight A student! All I can say is Thanks Pittsville! Wonderful school, feels like "family" there, thanks for caring about the success of my children as much as I do!
i loved this school, when i first started school they had pre-k and i went there all my life, last year i graduated from there, and now moved to Parkside, both are amazing schools.
I have written reviews since 2007 and see none of them in here anymore. Some were good, some were bad, yet all were honest. The oldest review in here is 2004 which leaves me scratching my head asking why are mine deleted? I have lost faith in the validity of this site.
I feel that the loss of Dr. Vail is a terrible blow, and my children have come home many times disturbed and making legitimate arguements about the difference between what is said and what is done. I am ever optomistic, but also sadly worried.
Absolutely the best school in our area! Through my experience relocating a few times I have to say Pittsville excels in leadership, teacher/parent involvement and behavior of the children. Parents should be proud to have such a fine school with such disciplined children!
I grew up in the area attending Delmar Elementary before moving to the North Salisbury School District and onto Wicomico Middle and Wi-Hi. I must say that I feel my child is getting twice the education w/ about half the peer pressure and danger I was ever exposed to. Keep up the good work, Willards and Pittsville Elem.
Principal Leadership: The current principle tends to delegate jobs and leave leadership to the senior teachers. Leadership in this area is lacking, but it doesn't work out that bad in the end. Teacher Quality: One of the highlights, but the teachers tend to move a bit slow. Extracurricular Activities: The teachers take time out of their own hands to provide extracurricular sports to their students when the funding for such things was cut a few years back. Parent Involvement: This you don't see much of. Safety and Discipline: Horrible.
i think that pittsville is a bad school. well what i mean is that the teacher pick faveorites and only get the ones that they like a getaway. and i just didn't think it was fair and i also think that the teachers spend only a short time on the subject. not all the teachers do this but alot.
Overall, this school is great. A nice environment and everything. Although, it it sometimes messy because there doesn't seem to be enough janitors to tidy up. The discipline is completely awful, though. Students can get away with anything they feel. If someone does something bad NUMEROUS times, they get suspended. The teachers do move fast, making students not understand something when the teacher should have thoroughly went over a certain subject.
If I had other options my son would not be going to this school, the teachers do not spend a sufficient amount of time on one subject before they move on to another, other parents that I know are complaining about the same thing, so I know that this is an on going problem! I recently gave my son some multiplication tests, (that he had been 'taught'), once he got past 1x9 the 2x were 40% correct, the 3x were 2% correct! The homework that he brings home he does not understand, what ever happened to books that you could bring home to study with, they don't exist anymore!
