I love this school and look forward to each day here. Academics are challenging, and the teachers are top-notch.

If your child is above average, your child will be fine here. There is limited extra for the kids and they bus kids from all over the county so it is hard for the kids to make long term friendships. If you child as an IEP, but not severe, some of the staff are not talented or interested enough to educate them (although some are excellent). go private if you can.

Mixed experience so far. Academics are almost uniformly strong, with appropriate accommodations. Very strong music program. Social atmosphere is a disaster. Despite an official anti-bullying position (and weekly emails end with "It's nice to be nice,") the message hasn't gotten through to the many entitled, cruel, pack-mentality students. If not for several very caring and committed teachers and staff, I would pull my child out of the school.

Cabin John did right by all three of my children. Each of them had very different strengths and academic needs and each was taken care of brilliantly. I will say that my child that needed academic interventions had me as as an advocate and I was in close communication with staff to be sure we supported my child. If someone is unhappy with the level of support I would ask how involved they were in communicating the need for it.

This school is not very good. The teachers do not help the students and the teachers expect to do everything on their own. Herbert Hoover Middle School is a much better school teacher wise and academically. People are very nasty at Cabin John.

I'm not very happy with this school. They do not provide student support. Instead, students are expected to do everything on their own. Sink or swim. Some students need additional supports. The administration does not endorse the use of a web site to provide information to parents regarding grades, attendance, homework board, etc., even though all area middle schools use this tool. It is a hands off approach to teaching. We need a more student-friendly staff at CJMS.
