The staff and admin. put on a good show at this school, but behind the scenes it is all about helping the lower students pass the state test. Many of the higher students go on to private school once they leave this school.

My daughter is in 5th grade. She has done wonderful in school and if ever she has had a problem with a subject they made sure it was addressed

High faculty turnover, new principals every couple years, parent apathy. When a friend recently pulled her daughter out of Preston to send her to an independent school, the principal said, "That's too bad, she would have been great for our scores." I moved to get my children out of Caroline County schools. Children may leave Preston ES with good handwriting and know how to stand in a line, facing forward, not moving like a statue, but they certainly don't know how to problem solve, or think for themselves. Take a good, thorough look and do some classroom observations before sending your children here.

I am a former parent.Former, because I moved out of state to get my boys out of that school system. They only teach to the test,do not challenge the students and I feel the administration is to blame. I have four children that attended that school and most of the teachers were great but were held back by administration. I hear you have a new principal. Thank goodness and good luck! I knew it was bad but, didn't really know the extent until I experienced the expectations after entering a new school. The difference in the level of expectations is incredible, beyond belief! You really have no idea what your kids are not getting there. Do not let the test scores fool you because they definitely do not reflect the level of education your child is getting!! I have to mention the biggest exception, Ms. Phelps(K), she rocks!! Good luck, Sharon Molden

My 3 daughters have attended Preston elementary for two years now and they absolutely love it. This school is superbly managed and the atmosphere is warm and posotive. My oldet daughter is off to middle school this year and she is not looking foreward to leaving Preston elementary.

I've found the teachers and staff at Preston Elementary to be caring, patient, kind, well-informed and wonderful educators. We couldn't be more pleased with our son's school and the people who are helping to educate him there. I've also been enormously impressed with the level of parental involvement.

Any school that has only 20 minute recess for 5 year old kindergarten students, doesn't understand developmentally appropriate practices. While the school is clean, it is run down and in desperate need to be renovated. This is definitely a school that 'teaches to the test,' just ask any teacher. It is more concerned about their scores, than the children.
