Our military family has attended a total of 4 elementary schools in the past 9 years. Calvert Elementary has by far been the best experience for us. The principal, Mrs. Haynie, is warm and inviting. All of my children's teachers have been caring and friendly. My son's IEP has been handled in the most respectful and professional manner. His confidence has improved tremendously with the help of Mrs. Doonan, Speech Pathologist, and all the occupational therapists who have worked with him over the past two years. Maryland schools consistently rank among the highest in the nation. After attending three wonderful years at Calvert Elementary, I completely understand why.

What a difference a new principal makes!I would be interested in the new rating it would receive for 2008/2009.The MSA scores have sky rocketed. The only improvement is the staff could be a little more welcoming to the parents.

I have one child in Calvert Elementary and she loves it. The staff is not only amazing but extremely caring. I have not had one negative experience with any of them. I do think the building is old, but you can't have it all!

As far as everything I have seen so far, Calvert is a nice school except the Principal is not as helpful as she should be.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science. The MSA is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Maryland. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
