I moved back into the area so my son could attend Rising Sun (my alma mater) only to be a bit disappointed. Middle school has virtually NO homework. They are allowed to do their homework (what little there is) in class. Absolutely no study skills being instilled. I do not know how they expect kids to be prepared for high school not to mention College! I need to find a charter or private at this point. Such a let down after having such a great experience at Calvert Elementary...
R.S,M. S. has a great teaching staff. The school has strong community help. The school provides fun after-school activies. The school is always displaying student awards & monthly top art project. The school has fund raisers to help others. Every one is treated like they are a member of the school family. It is a wonderful school!
Great teachers great spirt
Rising Sun Middle School has the most Awesome Administrators, Teachers and All Staff around. They love their children and help each and every student get the best education. They have a way of working with every parent and child to get the most out of each child instead of teaching each child in the same way and losing children in the system. They personalize each childs corriculum according to how the child is able to absorb the information. They are a top of the line, world class school. I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their kindness and professionalism.
I disagree with the first review for my school. I am a student at RSMS and believe it is a VERY FUN place. My social studies teacher Mr. Bower always gets the class involved in what we're doing by watching videos, reading books, and always having a good sence of humor. Ms. Parkhurst, my reading teacher, always has a wonderful sence of humor as well and always gets the class involved using her Smart Board to play fun games. My math teacher, Mrs. Sappia teaches me pre-algebra. I'm in 6th grade so that is a very hard subject, but Mrs. Sappia makes it fun using white board activities, watching real-life videos where people use math, and using her wonderful humor. I hope that this review was very helpful, and that anyone who doubted RSMS, rest assure that this school is a wonderful one to go to.
I believe the problem at this school starts at the top. The teachers and administration at this school are NOT receptive to parents, do not take the time to get to know the kids they teach and are always in the 'defensive' mode. I have 2 children who attend. One is an above average student and one was an average student. This school seems ready to 'ream' either of them at the drop of a pin and both are good kids. However, if you point out what the teacher may be missing or may have done inappropriately, you are flatly dismissed. The coursework is pushed at an un-Godly pace and the 'special' courses are taught like you are in a communist country! Where is the FUN in school anymore? Certainly not going to find it at RSMS. No student support for extracurricular activities, either!
This school is very agerage. Not up to par with other Harford County Schools. My daughter has been diagnosed with mild learning dissabilites and has trouble with organization. The teachers were quick to 'tag' her as lazy and unmotivated instead of finding creative ways to teach her in her needs. We are currently considering moving to lower Harford County to take advantage of the Private School Sector, my experience is that no public school cares about you child! If your child is above average they will do fine here.
This school was average. The teachers, however, are good at what they do and they all have a unique method of teaching their students.
It is a awesome school!
I have to agree with both of the other parents. My son is currently a student at RSMS. It is almost imposible to get any type of 'special' help for your child. My child has ADHD. and this school refuses to see him as disable and chalk up his inability to complete his work as laziness. I find this school and most of it's adminastration one big JOKE.
