Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

The principal Mr. Christian is very rude and have a nasty attitude. It's sad to see people who care nothing about children working with them just for a pay check

William Wirt Middle School is great because the staff really care's about the students in and out of school. The students and staff are part of our community even if they don't live in the area. We care about them and they care about us. It's a great relationship. They're good kids and could really use this money for much needed supplies and activities

Yes, the building is old and the teachers are overworked and short staffed. But there is plenty of opportunity for parent involvement, the teachers that I have spoken with have been professional, intelligent and caring. My daughter has been on the Honor Roll, conducts herself like a young lady, and is looking forward to high school as a stepping stone to college. She is involved in after school activities, and the school provides a late bus so that the kids can do that. I have taught her that throughout life, you get out what you put in. Our children will do what we expect of them. Time to raise the bar ourselves.

The building is old and dingy. The desks are broken and inadequate. Last year there was no discipline plan in place and no provision for detention or any form of correction except suspension, which was used as a first line of action instead of a last line of action. There were no activities, clubs, or school spirit. The school failed AYP again and made only a 2% raise in MSA scores. There are a huge number of students who must repeat a grade. There is a high turnover in teachers and also a high absentee rate daily among teachers. The stress level is immense and this is no place to send your child.

The majority of the issues that prevented progress as a whole were lack of parental involvement in issues dealing with EDUCATION, student apathy, and negative 'learned behaviors.' This school has some EXCELLENT teachers--professionals who go way beyond the call of duty. The problem is that the majority of the students aren't learning because they don't want to! Sadly, young people (and not WWMS adolescents) don't care enough about their education (or others) or about people who are looking out for them. They and sometimes their parents are overly concerned about less important things-- shoes, hair, and clothes (that look unprofessional)! Understand that if the parents don't have control over behavior, appearance, etc. at home, educators and administrators at WWMS are gonna have a heck of a time doing their jobs. In my opinion this school needs supportive parents, uniforms, self-contained classrooms, and a strict in-school suspension.

I agree with other reviews. A truly disappointing experience. There is very little attention to providing a quality education. Many of the teaches behave as though the children are incapable of learning. Focus is on 'control' not teaching. My daughter has been insulted and threatened. Poorly trained and immature the young ones teachers. I am guilt-ridden as I did not fight harder to get her out of the school but a lesson well-learned will hopefully yield better results in high school. After-school activities were promised but did not materialize. Only saving grace is the music program.

I am a seventh grade student who attends William Wirt Middle School. In my opinion, this school is very out of control. this school is out of control because most students are out of control. Basically every week, I've seen many of my fellow classmates get suspended. And must you know why? Because they were fighting. Every day in the past couple weeks I've been told about various fights. It's getting quite ridiculous. I want to have a good education but I want this school to really clean up it's act. They don't have that many extracurricular activies and I have no comment on parent invovlement because I do not anything about that.

I am so disappointed in this school. This is this second year that my nephew has been attending this school and I can see the big difference in him. His attitude and his grades have suffered. My sister had to go up there and straighten them out a couple of times. For example, his last report card the teacher said he got a D. When my sister when up there to show her all his work the teacher said it was a mistake he was supposed to have B. I just don t understand how you can mix your students up. Maybe she the student to teacher ratio is too high. I have also been up there twice and I can see how run down the school is. I am going to do all that I can to do to get him out of that school.

I have a child who attends this school. This school is truly a big dissappointment. Students are totally out of control. Most teaching staff is immature and lacks professionalism. Strange form of Leadership Bullying!!! Although I have found Assistant Principals, two to three good teachers (that my child has had) and a few guidance counselors to be fairly good staff and are serious about the children's education, it is my opinion that the school lacks in the area of professionalism. No student should be forced learn in this type of environment. With a cleanup, this school could be a great school. Recommendation: Fire everyone and rehire those that are serious about being educators.
