This school has great teachers and many learning facilities, as well as help whenever you need it. It offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, as well as many sports. On the bad side, counselors are not too open for help, but can often be appointed whenever you need. They can be unfriendly to inquiring parents and soemtimes talk rudely. The students in this school are often times decent, but very often there is always bullies and people who pick on others for the reason that they are different. Overall, this is a great school to go to. Just watch for the snappy counselors, and defend yourself from bullies.
I am overwhelmingly happy with the experience my son has received at Tilden Middle School. The teachers are invested in each child learning inside and outside of the school. My son trnasferred in the middle of the year due to unexpected challenges at his prior shool however, my son was able to assimilate with no issues partly because of the teacher involvement. my son is very pleased with the school as well and looks forward to goind to school each day to learn and interact with his new freinds. Also, I witnessed a substantial improvement in my son's grades and willingness to participate in afterschool activites offered. The staff are well organized, considerate and very approachable as well. I am totally looking forward to the next school...Go Tilden !!!Keep up the great work!!!!
I came to the United States last year together with my family and choose Rockville, MD to live because it is Tilden Middle School's district and I knew this school was the excellent school to be at. Anyway, the school has exceeded my expectations! And the new principal Ms. Backer is so good, so good, that I don't have words to praise her enough! She is always there whenever you need her, she is always participating in any school's activity and she is concerned about every single aspect of the school. I couldn't wish better school for my son (he is finishing 6th grade at Tilden)!!!
im in the 8th grade and i love going to tilden. the new principal mrs. baker is wonderful! she is kind, sweet, considerate and patient. The classes are very good, and the math, history and language teachers are wonderful
This school is an exellent school. There is a wide range of math classes from ones for the gifted to children needing a little help to stay on course. English and reading classes have two levels per grade so smart children can be separated from the others. There are so many programs that my I can't decide what to participate in! Activity buses take children home on Tuesdays-Thursdays after the programs. There are four levels of band and two levels of orcestra. Parents can be very active and involved if they want to but they don't have to. The principle is not very involved but the vice principles are. Overall this is a great school!
This school is by far one of the best school in the Montgomery County School system-and, that's saying a lot! You really cannot go wrong in any of the County's schools. There are folks who will compare these schools with others in the County, but- take a look at the County's overall record. My children went through the school system and two of them are grown (we still have a child in his last year at Tilden). The other two--well one went to Stanford and had a Masters in Engineering and the other went to Ohio State and is in a grad program. Not too bad. My son is entering high school with honors in math and english. The school is diverse, but I think this is a good thing. The student get to interact with people from all over the world, while learning.
Reading grades deterioration over the last 3 years, may have to do with the high amount of recent immigrants joining the school, but judging from my son's comments about 2 of the 6th grade school Reading teachers and the influence on his motivation to study related subjects, I am unfortunately convinced that the school and teachers have some responsibility for the deterioration in the grades too.
A wide diversity of student ability. Teacher flexibility and personal attention high. Most teachers are exceptionally trained and teaching is methodical. People seem to enjoy being here.
