My daughter is in kindergarten and I'm just impressed with the quality of teachers and staff at Viers Mill. This is not just another public school, this school is outstanding, their work to engage the parents is fantastic, here doesn't matter where you are coming from ...your child will be successful and will get as good grades as those kids in opulent schools. At Viers Mill, excellent education is possible regardless how much is annual income.

What can you say. This school is an awesome school. They have won the blue ribbon of excellence for the state of maryland. They are focused on read read read. They have a parent night where you can come and learn new topics to help you make your child the best student possible. They serve pizza and have childcare availble for you at no cost which is a godsend to alot of parents with younger children. They provide transportation and teach you and your child how to learn better. They have afterschool music program and afterschool foriegn language classes that your child can start in kindergarten. The pta is very involved in the shool as well. I loved the school when i went and i love it even more now that my son goes here. A truly great school with great teachers and great administration. Top notch if you ask me.

Viers Mill is an exceptional school with administration, staff and parents who really care about children and helping them to achieve all they can. The PTA and school work well together to provide programs that will help support the school programs as well as to supplement the academic school day. There is an exceptional gifted and talented program at this shcool which strives to enrich and challenge both students who have been identified using the usual indicators as well as those children who show potential to excel; there has been a lot of training for staff to implement GT differentiation in the classroom, as well as to meet the needs of students who struggle to stay on grade level. These challenges are not easily met at any school, yet at Viers Mill, they do a fantastic job at realizing all student potential. And they have the test scores to prove it!

VMES is an ethnically diverse campus, with a very focused staff. Literacy is their highest priority in the K-2 population, which is the students/teachers I have observed. The PE dept. is making a concerted effort to teach kids about life fitness, encouraging daily exercise, even though in school, PE is only a once a week event. I would like to see more PE, and more music programs after school. There is a new principal this year, so I am unable to comment on him at this time, but he inherited a great school with a great staff.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Maryland used the Maryland School Assessment (MSA) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in reading and math, and grades 5 and 8 in science.
