the school has gotten better this yr new principal new attitude but as a parent I understand that we must be involved in our kids lives to cut down on distractions that cause them to fail dont blame it all on the teachers we as parents are kids first teachers so if we send them with the right mind set thst scholl is serious not a game we help the teachers achive there goal
I think since Dr. Robinson has become the pricipal of the school it has turned around 150% I am soooo very happy he is there and giving the students the support they need. He promotes education on such a high level and gives the children much more to believe in outside of the negative they see and some fall prey into. The new teaching staff is even much better and I am happy about my decision to let my daughter return to end her middle school years. GREAT JOB!
Our youngest son is in the 7th grade at G. Shugart Middle School, the students makes fun of him almost everyday because he do not speak street language and they think he is weird because he do not curse. G. Shugart is out of control the students are the ones running the school and when there a fight Dr. Robinson and Ms. Parker are no where to be found. As far as the teachers they can not teach because of the fighting in the classrooms, and students disrupting the ones who want to learn. That is why we decided home schooling is best for our son so he would not have to deal with any more fights and kids making fun of him.
Things have much improved since the arrival of the new principal. Great job Dr. Robinson and staff.
2007 Maryland Report card (www.mdreportcard.org) reports AYP was not met again in 2007! The principal, Mrs. Curtis Smalls is the worst principal I've ever met. She belittles staff and teachers and has not a clue on communication and people skills! It starts with her!
I am very disappointed with these comments. I think you all should be ashamed of yourselves as parents about these comments. This school is excellent...we have a very strong administration. The administration and teachers have an open door policy. I feel if you are so concerned about the school, why not voice your concerns to the school and Stop bashing about the school on the internet. I am having a wonderful experience here at G. Gardner Shugart Middle School! This school has turned around completely and the MSA scores has raised every year and will continue to raise...and I know this year .... We Will Meet AYP because Victory Is In The Classroom and we definitely Follow The Core Beliefs.....Parents ... we need to come together and be partners! This is not a way to voice your negativity about the school.
I was a student there and the school is an absolute jungle. The students run the school and the teachers cannot teach them because they will not listen,so it effects the ones who want to learn. That school needs a tremendous improvement. I have moved because my mother and I did not want me to continue in this school.
If there was a rating that started at 0 that would best fit this school. This school is HORRIBLE! I have never seen such a out right disrespectful bunch of students in my life. They have no home training and nither do their parents. How could you let your child come to school and disrespect the persons that are trying to help the succeed in life. The teacher half care because the students do not care. The principal is not there enough to what is going on. I do pop ups all the time and see how the students over run the school. There has got to be a way to get this school closed down or a whole new staff. There is NO safety or discipline here and probably never will be as long as Ms. Smalls is the principal. I have removed my child from this school.
The Principal, Vice Principal and staff all need an attitude make over. It has not been one time I went into the school and found someone in the front office that was helpful. The teachers get paid, and that s about it. This has been a very bad experience for my son and me. I moved just to get him out of there. I can t subject my other children to that place.
the teahers at this school has given up.The principal is not respected by the students which means the kids are running the school. there is no way that positive learning can take place due to all the fighting and disrespect of the teachers by the students. I took my child from this school because there was no way he could learn in that type of envrionment.
