My son attends Rosaryville and is in 4th grade. This school is terrible. He is being bullied and no one is doing anything about it, except Ms. Hooper, who tries. there was a bullying incident at school one Thursday and my son came home to talk to us about it because he was very upset. I called the Vice Principal on Friday and she said that she hadn't reviewed all of the statements from the teachers yet and would call me back. Well two weeks later, no call. I spoke with the principal and she said she would have the Vice Principal call me. Guess what. That was three days ago. still no call. The homework when the teacher is actually there is outrageous. I don't know how any child can learn this way. We are looking into every possibility to remove our son from this school to the extent that we may sell our house and move out to Calvert County.
My grandson has been attending this school since kindergarten. He is now in the fifth grade. I think this is a great school. I also think that the teacher student ratio needs some work. The classes seem to be getting larger every year. And because every child doesn't learn at the same level, more assistance is needed to help the teachers in teaching.
All 4 of my girls have gone their. I love this school its excellent!!!
It is any parents hope that the public school system can provide a great and enriching education for their child. Rosaryville needs the assistance of seasoned and progressive educators to improve a troubled system. My child will not be attending this school next year. My childs teacher is a good teacher but she like many other teacher's there are faced with an administration that is to busy trying to fix test score that the children have been forgotten in my opinion. My child like other students according to other Rosaryville parents I have spoken to, have lost their love of school and learning. If the system does not improve, the school will lose good teachers and families that are dedicated to the public school system. Learning can be fun. It does not have to be a burden to parents and children.
This year has been the far worse yet. I have been a parent whose children have attended this school since Dr. Shannon's administration, since then this school has gone totally downhill. As with any new administration, you must provide them a grace period to meet the challenges of a learning curb; however I believe both the new Principal and new Vice Principal are over their heads. The county has teamed up the most opposite of mindsets and skill sets to run a school of 700+ students. Listen up Region IV, ITS NOT WORKING!!!! Step in and save this school. The only thing that is currently saving parent & student moral is the fact the most of the teachers are still at the school, however, I really do not see this being the case for 2008-2009 academic year. If Region IV does not respond, Dr. Deasey needs to before it's too late.
I love Rosaryville - real sense of community. Pro- excellent teachers, more than decent amount of homework, alot of parent involvement, informative teachers. Cons- new principal - still working out kinks - communication is slow, tardy policy cannot be accomplished - School opens at 7:25 and you are tardy at 7:45 - with that many cars, it is physically impossible to get your kid in before they are tardy. Bring back the grace pd. Other than than - she has implemented TAG instruction classes - thats excellent.
My daughter attends Rosaryville 6 grade and has been a student their since the first grade. Her first few years were great until 2005 when Rosaryville lost their principle do to a car accident. Since then, the school has gone to the pits. They have had two principles since then and neither can measure up to the old principle. The students now are wondering the halls and are out of order. This year more than half of the school activities were terminated - cheerleading, the drum line and the pom poms and baton twirlers to name a few. Like the comment below, the teachers seem/are unconcerned. One teacher was two weeks late distributing his progress reports. Go figure. Teachers are given time to do this. Therefore, I fax the school board a letter and emailed it to the school s representative. And guess what, I received no response.
I give this school 4 stars.
The staff in this school seems to be generally unconcerned with student welfare and learning. My children come home with tons of homework that takes hours to complete with lots of help from me. This school has recently changed principals and the change has been negatively noticeable. A change in administration would greatly improve students learning and over-all learning experience. I have enrolled both of my children in costly after-school programs, just to keep them on grade level.
In 2004-2005, this school was run like a Fortune 500 Company. The principal was very professional and had zero tolerance for foolishness, from the students, as well as the staff. The school is beautiful and fairly new, with air conditioning, heating, a beautiful cafeteria, brand new computers, a media center with a fabulous library. Oh, a a great alarm system, so don't try to steal from that school. In 2005-2006, Dr. Shannon, former principal will be at another school. I hope the new principal will be half as professional.
