Springfield Middle School

The principle at this school gives preferential treatment to students who come from the Nolan Village part of the district. If I had a child in this district I would be campaigning for her firing. I would also be threating the school district with lawsuits for racial discrimination. Washington County public schools have a zero tolerance policy for bullying. However, the principle is not enforcing that policy when it comes the kids from Nolan Village.

As far as the school goes, it's ok but my daughter has some exceptional teachers. I think that there can be more extra activities offered, other than a few dances and some tutoring. There should be some sports introduced at this age, it such an important team building experience, the earlier the better! I also would like to say that the math department has turned my, once 'math hating' daughter, into a math lover! I applaud any teacher that can do that, it's something I really missed out on in this grade.

I am a bit overwhelmed by the mouthy behavior that seems to be overlooked. Or that certain students seem to be able to take control of a classroom with curse words, out bursts and whether they are sent to the principal or not. I am not sure why these it is allowed for a few students in each class who behave beyond poorly,coupled with attitude issues are not pulled out of that class so that it can funtion properly. The students who are trying to learn and just get thru middle school, we all remember how hard middle school can be. Those students should be separted and have to EARN their way back to those classes.

The math department is top notch. It's amazing how they turn the boring things I hated into games/activities. My child's teacher even has written math songs that she gets my 12 year old son to sing to us at dinner? His teacher last year turned him on to math and as a 7th grader, he just loves it more.

I have been very pleased with the quality of education my children are obtaining from SMS. They have many program 'extras' which enhance the learning environment. My kids are always excited to go to school too--that helps!

As the other reviewers have said, this school has a superb choral program - we're told it's one of the best in the state. (By the way, part of what makes the program successful is that the director goes out of her way to make sure that her students are succeeding in all of their classes) The math department is also very good. There is a lot that the teachers are doing to try to help students to do well. What I like about this school is that it seems like the teachers really care personally about our sons and daughters. The principal is a big motivator, too. He doesn't seem to care about the latest buzz words - he just wants to do whatever it takes for the students to learn and be successful. I believe this is by far the best school in Washington County!

Springfield is a great school to go to. The teachers are wonderful and the programs are great too. The chorus is outstanding and the band is really nice also. They have many after-school activties for students which range from Yearbook to MathCounts. The teachers are always willing to help and do a very good job.

This school is a wonderful school The choral program is particularly outstanding (they are always going to the State festivals), the English teachers are really great, and the whole staff makes the school a nice place for the children they teach. They are always doing extra things for the students and my kids really like being there. The community is very nice and I think we have very supportive parents. This really is a great school.

I have had 2 children in this school and feel the teachers and staff do an excellent job. The Teachers make sure parents are aware of whats going on and their band instructors are wonderful at staying after school to assist any pupils that need extra help.

i think the school and over all teacher is great the prinipal really keeps the children focus on whats important educationi wish there where more schools like springfield we came from frederick county there is a differents
