We're completing our first year here and so far we absolutely love it! Our son has been so inspired by his full day kindergarten teacher and has made so many wonderful friends. The class seems to be a pretty tight-knit group. Our son has been challenged at the appropriate speed for his reading (on par with rest of the class) and his math (advanced). He is also very excited about all the art that is included in their units of study. As parents, we are well-informed about the classroom happenings with emails from the teacher, a classroom website, as well as lots of communication from the PTSO and the principal's newsletter. The office staff have been very helpful as well.

McCarthy Towne is like a breath of fresh air in a time when kids are being being tested excessively. The staff understands that all children develop at different rates and they work tirelessly to support the growth and development of every child. The school philosophy values a balanced approach to education and resists the current trend in education to abandon the arts. I am so happy that I chose to send bot of my sons to McT. The foundation that McT provided for them at young age has served them well. They were able to transition seamlessly into the Jr High and High School here in town. I strongly believe the success the have experienced in their secondary education is largely due to the outstanding education they had in elementary school at McT.

McCarthy-Towne's non-competitive, touchy-feely environment is not well-suited to the bright, capable and eager student. My son went here for five years and was bored and unchallenged for the better part of his time there. The school also seems to attract an inordinate amount of children with behavioral issues. It was somewhat of an oxymoron because all the students had to sign a 'Behavior Contract' at the beginning of the school year. Yet I was amazed and very concerned about the bizarre stories that my son would come home from school with. The worst part was the teachers didn't utilize affective methods of classroom management and instead used negative reinforcement. We have subsequently transferred our son over to Gates school which is a much better fit, much more, stimulating academically challenging and furthermore, no upsetting or disturbing stories. if you want your child to succeed, send them to Gates...or Conant School.

The teachers at McCarthy Towne are some of the most caring, talented, and committed teaching professionals I have ever seen. The emphasis is on the whole child and integration of subjects. From live 'tide pools' that contain sea animals gathered by the 1st graders, to cooking at student's homes to learn about the culture of Ghana/France/Japan/etc, to strong math and art programs; the academics are top notch.

Both my kids went to MCT and loved it. Most of the teachers are extremely dedicated to the students and good at communicating with the parents. The principal Marcia has maintained the original vision of the school, individuality while integrating subjects to expand learning, despite the rapid growth. Most of the teachers are supportive of the children and their varied individual learning styles. The very best teachers are the ones that have beenthere for a while, but there is new blood that is brilliant too, Callie to be specific.

Wonderful staff, multi-sensory teaching, my kids love it, and so do we. The staff is great, academics are strong, the building is clean and updated, and most of all, kids are allowed to think out of the box, and get a great sense of who they are. This school encourages individuality and respect among others. Great school!
