I worked at Amherst Regional for a year as a leave replacement teacher in the World Language department. I have never worked with such great and supportive colleagues. The school's principal is a hard-working and forward thinking leader. While there are some challenges in articulation between the middle and high schools and room for growth in the use and integration of instructional technology, I learned at lot from working with amazing students and teachers and feel blessed for having worked there. It is a shame there is so much tension between the union and the school board.
This school is incredible. After high school I went to a fairly elite private college where many students had come from top private high schools, and my college peers were shocked when I spoke about the range of opportunities and classes I had in high school.
Run by left-wing socialists who, while my daughter was there, cancelled all classes for the academical talented because they made other kids feel bad. Then they stopped reporting class standings to colleges!
A top notch school. We moved here because of the school system and my daughter loves the high school.
This school is really terrible... I'm not sure what all the hupla about how great it is is about, but there really is nothing special about this school... the teachers don't care about their students all that much, the students don't care about each other all that much, the students don't care about their school work all that much. and its entirely systematic and everyday is the same.... not how i would choose to waste 4 years of my lifetime... I left soon after I came... and i was a school choice student... I would highly recommend that you look into one of the area's good charter schools... don't go here...
At Amherst high school, I love our arts department, our large number of course offerings, our 5 class a day schedule, our 3 trimester annual schedule, and our overall welcoming school community.
I am a freshman at ARHS dont even let me get started on this high school, it is amazing i cant believe its not on the top 100 list. My teachers push me to do my best and when i have trouble i get help right away. The school building is perfect and i have made many friends in my school year, which obviously shows how nice evryone is around this area. Its too bad they dont have this school in some of the struggling neighborhoods in Western Massachusetts, but this school realy brings out how magnificent the town it is located in is. Every one of the teachers are very open to any feedback and will give you extra time on anything you are stuggling on. I am in special ed. and it is the best department i have ever seen. Even better than my old school in california!
It wan't until after I graduated from ARHS that I realized how incredibly fortunate I was to have come through this school system. I was much more prepared for a rigorous college education than many of my college classmates were. I have now been teaching in public schools for 6 years, and I know now that Amherst is in another world compared to a lot of public schools.
the arhs has an excellent curriculum and many students are satisfied with their school life in the very safe atmosphere here as well. i would say that the arhs is one of the top public high schools in the nation.
Amherst Regional is a great school giving the opportunity for students to excell once they have graduated. I miss it!
