I think that the Ottoson Middle School has done a wonderful job with helping my child with his learning needs. My child is on an IEP at the Ottoson and when he started there in the 6th grade I was very worried that he would not get the same services that he did in elementary school but they have exceeded my expectations and he has excelled so much there. Yes the Ottoson Middle School defiantly supports any learning issues and they do it well.
This is my second year attending this school. So far its been a pretty awesome year. I have very nice teachers and they all give you a reasonable amount of homework, sometimes none at all. I am really gonna miss seventh grade.
This school is just so -so.They seldom Listen to my child , don't give him help. so we feel very disappointed.
If I could, I'd give this school 3 and a half stars. I am currently attending my second year at Ottoson. Some of the teachers are very great and nice and fair. Others should be fired. Unreasonable dress code (seriously, who has shorts that are past your finger tips when your arms are at your side?). I know public schools aren't always supposed to be clean and tidy, but sometimes it's disgusting. I am afraid to sit on the toilet seat or even touch the door handle to the bathroom. Also, it's very disorganized because of gigantic class sizes. There should really be a second middle school in Arlington.
I am writing in response to the post dated August 28, 2010, I think it is awful that you had to go through that type of bullying but I think at that time bullying was going on in ALOT OF SCHOOLS UNOTICED, and children in fear of talking about it but I can tell you now (with the new laws) OMS is very involved with ANTI- BULLYING they have seminars, they get our children involved as well. My son is in the 8th grade at the OMS and I have to say for a parent who was very nervous about Middle School, OMS has gone beyond my expectations, I have seen my son grow so much with the support not only from his teachers but his peers as well. The academic support they have is remarkable. I grew up in Arlington but went to the (Junior High East) which has closed down since so I had no Idea about OMS but if you are parent looking on this site about schools from one parent to another the OMS is a wonderful school, I am reading some reviews from the kids that attended OMS in regards to detentions, yes I am sure the school give detentions when needed. The teachers, staff, principles are all available to you when needed. I had a great experience with my son at OMS I will miss OMS next year.
I went to ottoson and got A and B and I still hated this school. This is my summary of the place half the teachers nice half mean. I failed most of my test in the summer because there was no air conditioner but that ok with the principles because they have air conditioners in there offices. I had terrible migraines but they would not send me home. I remember once getting left out in the rain and I went inside and they said I had to go back out so I was wet most of the morning and then they said over the speaker that morning " you can not just buy a ampm card just to go in the school and not get wet". First time I got a detention it was because of this "teacher said no more talking I said ok wait does me saying ok count as talking" and then I got a detention. I would not suggest this school.
This school is awful. I always dread each day of it. The teachers are unorganized, and just plain unfair. They throw detentions at you left and right for things that aren't your fault. They give undoable amounts of homework and they act like they hate you.
I personally think this is a good school. I am attending here and other than some bad teachers, I think it is an ideal middle school.
responding to the January 6th post: What was the point of that post? To show how you don't like Lakeview? To try to be all dramatic by giving hints on who you were? To make yourself feel better by saying that you're popular (you're not) and trying to act tough by threatening people who say OMS is a bad school? This isn't the place for all that, so save it. Now, I should probably write a review about OMS. I personally liked it, my parents made me change schools cuz I wasn't getting good grades, but many people do well there.
Okay let me set the record straight for anyone rading this. I am a 13 year old student currently attending Lakeview Junior High School in Dracut MA and I just transferred out of Ottoson Middle School NOT because of bullying or any of that other junk I transferred out bescause I moved. Now I can't use my name because the website won't post the review if I do but here's a little hint on who I am. On my last day attending OMS (11/3/10) I skateboarded down the hallway at approx. 2:20 I wrestled for OMS Wrestling Team. Skateboarded with friends in my spare time and just for the record I am/was one of the popular kids before I moved. Saying Ottoson Middle School is a bad school is a load of it. Come out to Dracut and see Lakeview Junior High it's 10 times worse. So everybody that says OMS is a bad school better smarten up before I have to find you.
I have been to Ottoson two years ago. To be very honest the school in general is okay. My experience there was no so good. Being a target of bullying along with other kids. I had to lay low in fear of more bullying. As expected in any school there is some kind of bullying. But at ottoson there is a little more. Because of my terrible expierience i chose to leave Arlington Public Schools to go to Minuteman Career and Technical High School. Overall if your child is "shyer" than a regular kid. Your child will not like this school just because of the constant harrassment from other students. I hope this helped
The teachers are out of control. It is a rogue middle school, and the teachers are attempting to run a reform-minded superintendent out of town.
this school is awsome... i think that we should have more school dances though because we need to socialize!
Anyways, I'm an honor student. There are a lot of brilliant kids there too. Most of the teachers are cool. Once in a while kids get in physical fights, but then again, girls like me find them part of life. You can't shelter your kids forever. I have so much fun there. I think this is an awesome school all around.
The Ottoson Middle School is a wonderful public school. The staff are dedicated and so is the principal who communicates often with the parents. Parents are not as involved as in the elementary schools, but I think this is because the students no longer want to see mom and dad around at this age. There are some afterschool programs but they are over within an hour. The afterschool music programs are excellent. The afterschool play is a bit haphazard but also a good experience for the kids. There are no sports teams but there are afterschool sports activities that the kids enjoy. The academics are good all-around from what I've seen. They seem to reach out to kids at all levels of ability. The teacher's my child has had have all been devoted and experienced. Safety in school is excellent although there could be better road/crossing guard safety.
