The issues are: (1) Their students are mostly "white kids" . The school forces itself into being a minority school. (2) The School is to BIG on getting money! They are actually really bad on who they get money and ways of finding it. Tuition for the upper grades are now costing to much (this will be even worse in the future). They will eventually price themselves out of the market. (3) The new addition of their lower school (2013) has added more grades (ie students) to finance this addition. This has dummied down the school with the current smart kids. (4) The cost for the school is becoming not competitive with good public education in nearby areas: ( Middleton, Andover, Marblehead, Manchester, Hamilton and Wenham). (5) The "Brand" of SCDS is getting to expensive for just a local regional school. (6) They have a 9th grade at the school. This is a "safety school grade" and most likely not good for the social development of your child.

We couldn't be happier that we have chosen Shore for our children's education. The quality of the faculty is beyond compare and their commitment and dedication is remarkable. My children are motivated and inspired and the depth of their learning is impressive. I am very satisfied with how well run the school is and the thought that is given to every aspect of its operation from the curriculum to the faculty to the physical space. At their tender age, they are happy and content at school and are developing skills and abilities that will hold them in very good stead. As a parent I couldn't ask for more.

Our children are new to shore this academic year. We are deeply impressed with the rigorous academic programs, the opportunities for building leadership skills, and the overall sense of community that Shore provides our children. We find that the faculty and staff deeply care about the students and are exceptional at what they provide. Both of our children are deeply enjoying their experience at Shore.

I find it very interesting that six five star reviews came in to this site in almost one day. Makes me wonder if these are "real" reviews...

Hi, We are parents of 2 Shore Graduates who each spent 10 years there and of once current 8th grade student in her 9th year at Shore. clearly we are happy with all that Shore has done for our children. Not only was their placement into secondary school superb but more importantly they were very well prepared for the challenging workload that highschool presented. We are also convinced that the writing skills they learned at shore have continued to be a huge asset to our current college sophomore. In addition it has been the most nuturing environment .. the facultyand administration really got to know our kids and helped them during some of the stressful times middle school social ife can bring. We will be very sad when our final child graduates and would be happy to talk about Shore to any prospective parents.

Put simply, Shore Country Day School is a fantastic place to educate your child. As a parent of multiple Shore students - each with different skills and abilities, I can say with complete candor that no other school provides Shore's level of customized education and personal growth. The faculty and staff are highly trained and fully aware of each child's unique needs. My children have learned to be confident, motivated students with an appreciation - even at a young age - of the benefits of a solid education. Perhaps most importantly, they have learned to be good citizens. This is the truest measure of Shore's value. As to the angry and negative reviews posted here by one or two outliers, I would only advise that you visit Shore for yourself and see why so many parents and students are thrilled with Shore. Do what I and many others have done - see through the unbalanced reviews posted by those with an axe to grind and check it out for yourself. It will be well worth your time.

We started at Shore 4 years with a child that was old enough to attend public school kindergarten, but was shy and timid and would have gotten lost in the crowd in a large class size. 4 years later she has now blossomed into a confident, happy and very well adjusted child. Most important, she loves learning, really loves learning. She is excited for school every day and lights up at night when talking about her accomplishments during the day. I attribute this growth to: 1) the teachers and their commitment to not only teach the children, but to let the children love what they are learning about 2) the small class sizes that allow the students equal attention from the teachers 3) the variety of the curriculum, even in the lower school, from the art to PE every day to spanish to music. We now have two other children that attend Shore and even though all their personalities are very different, the school has been a great fit for them from day one. Shore does the one that we believe is so important - it provides our children with an outstanding environment where they can grow and learn while building their confidence and being part of a very special community.

Shore Country Day School provides a superior educational experience. Teachers are warm, intelligent and dedicated to creating the best possible experience for each of their students. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves to be their best in a supportive and creative environment. The Community Code serves as a solid foundation for the kids as they grapple with the day to day issues of living in a larger community. At Shore, character matters. We couldn't be more pleased to have our daughters learning and growing in such a dynamic and caring school.

Shore Country Day School is a fantastic place. My daughter has attended the school for five years and it has been a great experience for all of us. Each year I have felt as if her teachers have taken the time to truly understand her and her learning styles. Academically, she has been challenged in her areas of strength, and supported where needed. Shore's Community Code is an important part of the fabric of school life, reinforcing social values and responsibility daily. We also love that the school draws from communities across the North Shore.

I have two daughters at Shore. One has been there since Readiness and has had such a positive experience there wasn't a doubt in her mind that she would stay through ninth. Not only is the ninth grade program very special there were still more faculty members that she was hoping to have as teachers before she left. They have pushed her to take her learning to the next level in a very safe and comfortable way. Our other daughter has been there since K and is loving her first year in the Upper School. All in all a great experience.

This review will be blatantly honest from the point of view of a male former student. Socially the school is very specific, instead of confronting social problems created within students it listens to one side of the story (the student whoms family they are more personally attached too) and labels the other as a bully. While most schools search for the root of the problem and attempt to reconcile the disagreement, Shore chooses to make it all better by punishing one of the students. Academically they are over-priced and not beneficial. They separate students based on their grades (instead of understanding of the material given). They treat the bottom of the group as if they are less smart then the others. The head of schools are the least understanding people I ve ever meant. They have gone to the extent of contacting schools the student is interested in. Not telling them how great their student is but rather asking the school to deny them a spot. They are actually attempting to disappoint and possibly influence for the worst their OWN STUDENT! A representation of whom they are!

We are really happy with the school. Our goal was for our kindergartner to develop into a happy, confident, and strong girl. It has been great to see this happening. She loves her teachers, is excited about learning, and loves going to school each day!

This school misses the mark in terms of integrity and diversity. The administration is operating with ideals from the 1950's, which simply are not relevant in today's society and culture. My child will not be attending next year.

Shore Country Day School is a remarkable school and I can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else. Despite being very different learners, each of my children has thrived at Shore. Shore supports children academically, athletically and socially. Every child is encouraged to be their best and teachers lead by example. Shore is graduating intelligent, compassionate, critical thinkers. From Readiness through its unique 9th grade, Shore offers an outstanding education and I can't recommend it more highly.

I have two boys here and I couldn't be happier. They are proud to be part of a community that teaches character, respect, hardwork and fun. They are excited to go to school everyday and have wonderful relationships with the teachers and faculty.

Our son spent 8 years at Shore and our daughter is in 6th grade. Both looked forward to going school everyday. The teachers are phenominal and they make learning fun. Whenever we meet with them, I am amazed at how well they know our children. They identify what each child needs to work on and they make sure each child improves in those specific areas. It is very rewarding to see how much each of our kids matured - academically, athletically and emotionally. They are confident in who they are as a person and that confidence carries over into all aspects of their life. Shore played a big part in that development and we are very appreciative of all that the school did.

I have 3 children at Shore Country Day School. All three are happy, engaged and love learning. They look forward to going to school every day. The teachers are all accommodating, experienced, and intelligent professionals in their field. One of my children has a reading disability and the school has never given up on him. They have supported him all the way through the lower and upper school. The school has a great sense of community. There are a lot of family events and opportunities for parents to be involved. There is a lot of diversity with families coming from towns all over the North Shore. The leadership at the school is top notch. The school has surpassed all our expectations.

The Shore faculty is 110% committed to their profession and to their students. The teachers' level of dedication and their interest in understanding each student is extraordinary. Every semester I have the privilege of receiving the most articulately written and constructive report cards. My three children are thriving in this enriching academic setting which also fosters an everpresent awareness of Community Code (good citizenship). When my children talk about peer connections with their big & little buddies or they share with me highlights of fun times with faculty plus the Head of School on annual class trips, I know they are experiencing & embracing a genuine community.

I am a parent of two children at Shore. I have been, overall, pleased. My children love going to school every day--they literally never complain. The fundamental philosophy is that the body and mind need to be exercised--so your child needs to be willing to play sports every day, whether in PE or after school. Lots of recess time for little kids; lots of individualized attention, academically. Science education is outstanding at every level. I do think it would be hard for a child who is not academically strong to have staying power at this school.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
