The Mary Lyon School is an excellent public school. This school is an inclusion model. It can be challenging to create a successful, meaningful inclusion environment, and the Mary Lyon does a phenomenal job. There are low teacher ratios and had fantastic leadership. I frequently recommend this school to other families, and I will continue to do so.
Also: Great afterschool programming; many music electives; creates compassion for all types of learners; close knit parent community; safe residential neighborhood
This school has given our family a new lease on life, We were sure our children would never be able to thrive in a public school setting. We are seeing enthusiasm about going to school and daily affirmations from our children that this is the BEST place for them. The creativity we are seeing developed and the use of behavior modification to get the best out of students is really life changing. Every kid is treated as an individual and encouraged to learn in the style that works for them. This is the epitome of what an EXCELLENT public school should look like. Not every school could have the 16 student class size or perhaps be able to handle the range of behavioral or learning issues this school deals with, but the faculty and principle along with the caring parents should be commended for bringing learning to the next level for children not expected to even be in school still!
Our children are doing amazing in this school. The administration focuses on ensuring the needs of the children, parents and staff are meet. This has exceeded our expectations coming from a local private school. The communication on what is going on should be a benchmark for all to follow. Clearly luck got us in through the lottery, our childrens future will keep us here and supporting an amazing staff! With much gratitude in seeing my tax dollars actually work for something reall meanginful our children!
My son has attended the Mary Lyon school for many years. It is extremely rigid. There is little creativity in the classroom and the classes are completely task-oriented. It does not feel like a happy atmosphere to me, and if comfort and if you care about your child having fun and being happy, and not just doing well on tests, then I wouldn't reccomend it.
The Mary Lyons is an excellent school. They have provided my son with some much attention, which has boosted his confidence in himself. This new found confidence has translated into better grades and a higher level of participation in class. The school also, has an awesome afterschool program, which has clubs that the kids can change every 4 to 6 weeks.
