This school is great in terms of academics and the opportunities it provides for students who want to pursue a health career. If it was not for this school I would of never been exposed to working in one of America's best hospitals at a young age. Although the school seems small to others, there is a wonderful community within the school. There really isnt alot of extracurricular activities that the school provides except basketball and step, there are different advisories such as the National Honors society, multicultural advisory, prom commitee, etc. As a senior, Im not sure if i can speak for others, but I think that the school doesnt prepare students for the SAT well, and there is no preparation for AP classes, as a result your just experiencing a drop in your GPA. It feels like a whole different atmosphere, since basically your on your own.
I love love love health careers academy, one of the best schools ever. The teachers care alot about their students and want to see them succeed. They offer advice from education to life and everything in between. Like Tania said, it's like an extended family.
As an Alumni of Health Careers Academy,I believe it is a wonderful school. What you have to keep in mind, is unlike other Public schools HCA is fairly new. With that said there are going to be a few kinks to work out. As for the teacher turnover, I believe those teachers who come and leave just view the school as a job and nothing further. For those teachers who remain, they see it more like their extended family and they do actually care about their students. Therefore I believe it unjust to blame the schools administration for these teacher turn overs. Overall the school is great, the location is, great, the caliber of learning is exceptional. +
HCA is great in that it is a small learning community. But there is lots of staff turnover every year. That makes me wonder about the administration. They don't seem to have their act together and I wonder why good teachers are leaving and teachers who don't seem as hard working are staying. They seem to change rules and procedures all the time and they are not consistent in discipline.
