I love this school and my 3 daughters are thriving in this healthy community that stimulates them academically as well as in their specials: gym, music, art, library every week. My oldest daughter was in 4th grade in 2006 and although the class size was bigger than it is now she excelled and performed excellently on the MCAS. She continues to be a high honors student in HS. In Jr. High (RJ Grey) she found herself better prepared than the students from other school districts in science and math. This school has the best of everything: experienced and highly talented teaching staff and an extremely effective Parent Teacher Organization that funds plenty of enrichment programs in science and art (in addition to the already outstanding curriculum).
Blanchard is on the top 50 elementary schools in the whole country! Obviously it is an amazing school then. Also, the curriculum is very advanced, and then test scores, especially MCAS are extremely high compared to other school districts. Also, the school has music, gym, art, and library more than once a week which lets kids learn about other things, not just strictly school related things. The teachers are very good and friendly and have never been a disappointment to the family. All 3 of my kids have been for all 7 years. They loved it and never had a doubt. They are all doing very well in their schools right now. My oldest daughter is in a good college too. People say that education you get in younger ages counts a lot so you want to have the best for your kids.
My son has been in Blanchard for 5 years. The school is not as great as many believe. MCAS scores for 4th grade are one of the lowest in the surrounding area and have not improved over time. His class size is 25 students per teacher in all 4th grade classes and despite pleas from parents the administration will not provide an additional teaacher to reduce the huge class size of 4th grade classes. There is alot of concern among parents that the 5th and 6th grade teachers are not the best. There are no expected changes on the horizon. I would not recommend that you move here for this school.
My child went through K, 1, and 2 at Blanchard and we love it. Each year he says he loves school, and he can't decide which teacher was his favorite--he loved them all. The community is largely upper-middle-class, and the parents are involved and children well-behaved. Blanchard has terrific art and music programs. My 2nd grader came home knowing all kinds of classics, composers, and artists that I learned of in college classes, or never knew at all! The special ed capability is very strong, test scores are tops, children are college-bound, etc. We love this school!
