I am a sophmore at Brockton high and i love it here! I lived in brockton for most of my life but i never attended the public schools here. I left Foxborough Regional charter school to come here. It all depends on the type of crowd you hang out with. It has so many opportunities and much more. You just have to take advantage of them. Brockton high has such a bad rep. Its like your typical high school to be honest.
I recently graduated from Brockton High this year, and although the school is not perfect, I would not have chosen any other high-school to attend. There are sooooo many resources that can be utilized- especially for struggling teens. One girl that I knew, who really had it hard, was helped by many staff members to move out from her unsafe home, find a job, and another, more safer, place to live. They even set up a way to get her to the school and back at any time of day without her having to worry or pay anything. They also helped her out with getting into college. BHS is big, and there are some students and teachers that the school could do without, but overall it has a vibrant life and wonderful programs. Through the nursing program there, I was able to obtain my CNA license and now I can work in the field of my future career right out of high-school. There is sooooo much you can get from BHS- you just have to work hard, investigate where your resources are, and watch who you hang out with.
My daughter is a freshman and went from an honor student involved in leadership and various activities to becoming a very defensive girl. There is a serious issue with bullying at this school and a policy that seems to punish the bullied along with the violator.I understand a zero tolerance policy which is NOT is practiced here. I agree with another poster that stated there is nepotism present as we had an incident with another girl that resulted in my daughter suffering a punishment and the other girl did not because her mother works at the school. I am highly disappointed and I am moving my child to another high school due to the violent and hostile environment in this school. They often lie or fail to inform parents of situations and I feel the reviews here artificial. They are all happy students and unsatisfied parents?? seems to be a pattern and would not be surprised to find the admins put them here to try to make the school look like something it is not!!! It is the administration that is lacking as I do feel they have a group of devoted teachers. However, there is a serious bullying problem.
It all depends on what kind of crowd you hang out with to understand Brockton High . Im a Freshman and i love Brockton high because its a lot better than any other school i have ever been to !
I am a freshman at BHS and honestly I'm so lucky to be in this school. It has such great teachers and a supportive principal. And about the discipline, I feel like they have great discipline compared to other schools. I'm not gonna lie, I was scared to come to this school at first but since I'm a good student, choose my friends wisely, everything is going well. This school has a bad reputation but it's not the administration or the staff, it's the students that choose to do bad. If your child doesn't mess around with the "bad kids" then everything will go fine, trust me. I'm so glad to be in this school. It has such great oppurtunites, like cermaics, culinary arts, Piano lessons, nursing, child studies, photography, & they have so many sports, drama club. this school is just awesome. Yes, there's alot of people but remember out of 4,800 students were all not gonna be angels, but were all not devils either. This is my school and unless you don't know why something bad happened or an accident then dont judge it. We have one of the best MCAS scores. When you go to apply for college when the administration see that you came from brockton high, they will be impressed.
i think this a horrible school and dangerous and it needs more discipline as soon as they get better administration
This school is one of the best schools constructed due to its amazing opportunities and extra curriculum activities, this school has educated generations of my family and will never get a bad report from me!!!
Honestly, I am a Freshman to Brockton High and love it. I feel that this school, even if it is huge, is a wonderful school. All of my teachers are great and extracurricular activities are fantastic. The teachers do a great job on knowing their students. I feel that the parent reviews don't do Brockton High any justice. The staff is very helpful and I, being from a household where English is not the main language, feel that the school's communication is fine. The school has many opportunities that I feel I wouldn't have if I had gone elsewhere.
My son went there for 2 years and at the end of his sophmore year he told me he didn't feel safe there. My son isn't a trouble maker or a bad student, And as far as the teachers being supportive they weren't there for the student nor us as parents. They were to busy being their friend instead of the teacher. If you asked them to call with an update it would be days later. What great support us as parents had. I am glad he is out of there. Now I am having conflicts with my younger child in the school system what a disappointment.
Brockton High is the best school, I went there and my brother is currently attending Brockton High. The education level is top notch and they inspire their students to be great even after graduation.
This school has many great programs! Concert Choir, the amazing Concert Band, Jazz Band, state champions in Football and many other sports. There are many after school programs and clubs. Plenty to choose from and that appeal to your interest. Academics is rewared with Honor Roll performances. Recently the school has participated in the IBO program. The Principle Dr. Zach is AMAZING! Although a couple of students give the BHS a bad name, don't let it fool you! There is a tremendous amount of talented and friendly students and teacher. I can't say enough great things about this school.
I love this school. The teachers are 100% supportive, the wealth and variation of courses are all wonderful oppurtunities. Yes, a lot depends on you -- to keep up with your work, to take care of yourself, to maintain your focus. You have plenty of help, though. Many of the programs here -- sports, International Bacclaureate classes, etc. are top-notch. I really like it.
It depends on how you take your education and the crowds of friends you hang around. I am fully pround to be student here and have never got susspended so I recommned this school highly to great learners! The staff is great and gets along with students so well and Mr. Previty is the best staff in there! He is in touch with all the students and Mr. Beals is the assistant housemaster and is also a great persson. I am in touch with Dr. Sczach and think she is really nice and is the best spirited person to be around! Thank you!
I feel very lucky to have gone to Brockton High. It's truly an amazing place. There isn't another school like it. There was a planetarium, olympic size swimming pool, skating rink, sports stadium, and every kind of extracurricular activity you could imagine. They have classes for all levels of learning - from special ED all the way up to AP calculus, physics, chemistry etc. Any other school pales in comparison. It's more like a university than high school.
Great School. Best Academic performance of Public High Schools in the Commonwealth of MA
Brockton High School is an absolutely amazing institution. The vast array of students from all walks of life come to one place where they all learn to co-exist and respect each other, teaching every Boxer valuable life lessons. The administration and faculty sets this perfect example for respect, as they respect every student, and promote a loving school environment. If one were to visit Brockton High, they would see every member of administration out and about, interacting with the students, not locked up in an office like at most schools. This administration is second to none. The faculty provides a loving support for all students. Opportunities at Brockton High are endless-- the school has a multidude of top-notch programs, from well-known athletics, to an acclaimed music department, to countless other extracurricular opportunities which provide students with valuable life opportunities. There is no school I'd rather have attended, no question.
This school has a bad reputation with regard to treating parents. A large number of schools administrators are highly opinionated and out of touch with students' and parents' realiaty. Communication with parents is not efective, especially on the phone. The school leadership along with the teaching force do not reflect the student body, which is very diverse and mainly comprised of immigrant and African American children. This could explain the widespread lack of motivation and dropout rates among numerous students who do not see adults with the same values and cultural backgrounds to inspire them. A culture of nepotism and favoritism tends to dominate this school with reference to hiring people for leadership positions. In order to improve this school, profound restructuring will have to take place. Parents and community leaders should play a pivotal role in this restucturing. Thanks for your attention.
I have had 4 children go to Brockton High School with mixed results.. my eldest daughter is bright and was in advanced classes and did beautifully-my eldest son, dropped out his freshman year and a full year later they were still calling me telling me he was absent for the day every month or so. And his friends said his name was called out on the intercom to go to the office- and my severely special needs daughter that went there and was cared for very well. But my son who has severe ADHD and is a freshman there now cannot get the services he needs. He is failing and they want to put him in Champion Charter -With his ADHD, he still gets suspensions for forgetting his ID- and I explain that keeping him out of classes makes him fall behind more- no one listens
My son is a freshman at BHS. I was worried that he would be lost in the shuffle because the school is so large. At first he did have some problems. He's not use to being in a school the big. Once he got use to the pace he seems to be keeping up. I've visited the school on several occasions and I must say that things run pretty smooth. My only concern is that I was able to walk into the school without to many questions as to my idenity and the door I entered through wasn't locked.
