MY granddaughter has been in the Huntington school from k-5th grade this is her last year the school is wonderful, but the school principa, has no people skills. my other remark is that my granddaughter and some of her friends rode the bus to school for a couple of years this year when school started there was a problem with several of the children being told that they could not ride the bus this year because it was only for children that didnot speak english fromthe same neighborhood as they are. I told my daughter that she should speak to NAACP and the mayors office and any one who would listen. Ms Saba is something else.
I have been with this school now for well over six years with my different children. I also volunteer a lot at the school. This past year more emphasis has been put into a "school Uniforn" in the hopes of bringing the school closer together and bring up the test scores. There are problems here at this school with the current Principal and her lack of willing to actually listen to a parent if it doesn't fit in with her agenda.
My two children have excelled at this "under performing" school. Both kids have been here since kindergarten and every one of their teachers has been fantastic. Any problem I've brought to administrators has been properly attended. I am a frequent volunteer and believe that more education and better leadership is needed in the students' HOMES in order for the school to improve.
There leaves a lot to be desired at this school. The principal is lacking in the skills needed to reach out to the parents to make this school a success. Tensions are constantly high between parents and staff. The Administration boasts that the staff is 100% certified to teach the class they are assigned and yet they are consistently an under performing school who cannot seem to make thier ayp every year. When a parent brings a complaint to the administration, they refuse to deal with it. The principal is more concerned with appearance then actual test results... this school is currently hiding behind smoke and mirrors. The best thing for this school would be for the state to step in and take control.
this teacher quality is the highest for the best teacher that most schools could only wish for. Mrs. K. Smith, is the most remarkable 6th grade teacher that I can imagine in this this world. Hard to believe that she makes such tough children into such sweet loving ones that do not want to leave her at year end.
