MAA, Is an amazing school for the six years i spent there my mind is filled with all the ever lasting memories that will stay with me forever, the teachers are amazing and supportive threw everything and they try to work things out in the best possible way. The after school activities offered her are outstanding. you could not ask for your child to be at a better school. Principal leadership is outstanding with just one"boys and girls" from my former principal and the whole gym of about 350 students was silent. Every student who goes here gets at least 1 high school acceptence. this school is a great choice if you are looking for a wonderful school for your children. although very hard to get into. it is amazing !
I was at Mount Alvernia Academy for 9 years. I found that it prepared me very well for Boston Latin School, where I now go. The teachers were excellent and they were very supportive
We are very impressed by Mount Alvernia Academy. The faculty and administration are dedicated to the children. The academic standards are high. The community is welcoming. I am thankful to have found this wonderful school.
This school is not satisfactorily supportive of boys. They do not seem to know that boys behave differently than girls. Therefore, this school will bring a positive experience upon a girl, while boys will find it is lax in student-teacher relationships. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, for a boy to develop his full potential here. While it has a strong academic curriculum, it seems to be sadly lacking in some of the more important aspects of a school.
I went to school at Mount Alvernia for 9 years, right from the beginning. I now attend Boston Latin School, and I have to say that MAA prepared me very well for the challenges I am now undertaking.
My daughter will graduate from 6th grade in June. She came to MAA in 2007 when she was in the 4th grade from one of the Boston Public Schools. She was not excited at all to start in a new school and leave her old friends behind, but after learning about the excellent reputation of MAA we did not think about it twice. She made great new friends very quickly, the girls and the teachers welcomed her very warmly and my daughter adjusted in a blink of time. I am very happy to say that we made a great decision and are more than happy with the school. They also have an extended Day Program that helps with homework and that was very helpful for us. Academically, it is one of the best catholic schools in the area and the teachers are invested 100% in their students. The parents are also an important piece in the student- parent- school relationship. The school demands a lot of effort from the students so they can reach their highest potential. Lots of homework and tests but the students are sent off to middle school very well prepared to handle more responsibility. I am happy to say that my daughter was accepted at Ursulines Academy and I know along with her hard work I have to thank MAA for her success.
I am currently a sixth grader at MAA. The school has made me extremely confident and has helped me in academics. If you come here, though, be prepared for lots of homework!
We have four children at Mt. Alvernia and are very impressed with the school. The quality of the education is outstanding and is the same quality as the ISL schools such as Nobles and BB&N. The faculty is very dedicated. Mt. Alvernia integrates Catholic teaching and practice into its curriculum in a way that really enhances the community. Children are participate in public speaking from an early age. They are encouraged to share their talents with the school community, in after school sports (including an inter-school basketball program), band, talent shows, art shows and science fairs. The school prides itself on being a partner to parents in all aspects of the children's development - intellectual, spiritual, athletic and moral. We highly recommend it.
We have children currently enrolled in grades 1 and 3 and will have one in Kindergarden next year. The academics are very strong, but be prepared for a lot of homework. The school stresses synchronicity between school and home and much is expected of the students. The teachers are excellent and hold the students to a high standard. Independence is also a point of emphasis. There are many extracurricular activities, including music, art and sports. The Christmas pageant is very heartwarming and every year I'm amazed at the kids' ability. It's truly special and all students are involved. Then facilities are well kept and current, including computer equipment and instruction. As mentioned above parental involvement is expected. It's a tight school community beginning with the affiliated Rainbow Nursery School.
