This school is a fantastic alternative for a child who's ready for more than what public school can offer. Clark specializes in flexible curriculum (aka differentiation) for all students. Children are not limited by their age. If they are ready to move up, they do. Even many other private schools do not offer this level of flexibility. It's a true gem and we're lucky to have such a school on the North Shore! This school is also a real bargain when compared with other area private schools.
We send our 2 boys to Clark School. I love this school! They don't try to get kids to fit the school and then struggle to deal with exceptions. Instead, they understand and embrace the fact that every kid is different. Also, there's no BS, no attitude. They're confident in themselves and what they're doing. When they make mistakes, they own up to them instead of trying to make excuses or deny responsibility. I'm thrilled that our kids are in an environment where everyone (students, faculty, staff) is comfortable with making and acknowledging mistakes as part of learning.
In our experience, the Clark School is a good place for a child who might not fit the cookie cutter approach to education practiced in some public elementary/middle schools. It turned out to be a great place for our son (a nerdish, quirky type, who is way ahead of his age peers in some academic areas, and does just OK in others including sports). The main benefits include - relaxed, small school atmosphere (kids are on first name basis with the teachers and all other school staff, a school dog roams the premises) - small class size (12-15), - kids grouped by ability rather than by age (our son has been in the class with kids 2-3 years older, which has been great for him socially and academically), - a place where a really smart kid can be who they are (and even find someone like him/her to talk to).
